MARVEL MOVIES UPDATE

Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige told The Continuum that, under certain conditions such as no actors strike, Marvel could have as many as five movies in production by the end of the year.

While Feige didn't get specific about which five movies might be in production, he did offer some recent developments on various projects.

Here's a rundown:

  • Spider-Man: Principal photography finished last month, with odds and ends and second-unit shooting the past couple of weeks.

"Now that that's finished, Sam (Raimi, director) is in the editing room, working hard with the editors on putting together the first cut," said Feige, a frequent set presence who added that the film's dailies have been "amazing."

  • X-Men 2: "There is not a script yet," Feige said. "There is a story and we are just bringing it into the script stage."

Responding to Internet rumors about possible stories, Feige said, "I think fans are going to be happy."

  • Ghost Rider: Look for some news on this movie this month, with production starting before year's end. Stephen Norrington is directing from a David Goyer script. Nicolas Cage has been in talks to star.

  • Iron Fist: Feige said John Turman's script is in. "It's going out to Ray (Park, who will star) and to directors," Feige said.

  • Werewolf by Night: John Fasano has been linked as writer, but a deal hasn't been done yet. "He's the writer we want," Feige said.

  • Fantastic Four, Iron Man and Daredevil: Announcements on all three films could come as early as this month.

    WITCHBLADE TV UPDATE

Top Cow Productions, TNT and eBay have teamed up to raise money for the American Cancer Society through a special promotion for the Witchblade television series, which launches June 12 on TNT.

Beginning June 11, eBay will host listings on its site for such unique items as Yancy Butler's leather jacket from the TV film signed by the entire cast, signed episode scripts, original artwork from the Witchblade comic book and many other one-of-a kind items. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

"We'd been talking with eBay about doing a special promotion on their site for the Witchblade series," says Top Cow president Matt Hawkins. "And since Witchblade co-creator Michael Turner has been fighting cancer for the past year it seemed a logical charity to donate the proceeds to."

"TNT was thrilled to partner with Top Cow to provide the Witchblade signature items to benefit The American Cancer Society through eBay," said Scot Safon, TNT marketing senior vice-president. "It's a great opportunity for Witchblade fans to get engaged in the fight against cancer."

    In other Witchblade news:

  • TNT has released a photo of Laila Robins as Dominique Boucher, who will be introduced in the second episode, "Conundrum," which will premiere on Tuesday, June 19. Here's how TNT describes the episode:

"Sara and Jake are drawn into the exotic world of high fashion by the grisly death of a stunning young model. While on the hunt for the killer, Sara gets a premonition about her past that goes back decades after she encounters the roommate of the slain model who was brought in for questioning. Jake is propositioned by an alluring young woman who may give him more than he expects.

  • The official Mutant X television web site has recently added the following disclaimer:

"You may be aware that Marvel Entertainment, Fireworks Entertainment and Tribune Entertainment are named in a dispute with Twentieth Century Fox, with Fox claiming that there may be some confusion about a relationship between X-Men and our Mutant X. We have made it clear that the only relationship between X-Men and our Mutant X television series is that each originates with Marvel, the publisher of Spider Man, The Incredible Hulk and a whole host of other successful properties featuring superheroes.
