HOWARD THE DUCK A GO

   The Howard the Duck mini-series is a go, creator Steve Gerber told The Continuum on Friday afternoon.

   "This morning, I had a conference call with Joe Quesada, Bill Jemas, and Stuart Moore, and I can now confirm that I'll be writing a six-issue Howard the Duck series for Marvel's new mature readers line," Gerber told The Continum.

   Phil Winslade will be the artist, with covers provided by Glenn Fabry.

  "We'll provide more details about the project over the next few weeks, but as of now I can state categorically that this will be Howard as you've never seen him before," Gerber told The Continuum.

FRIENDS OF LULU AWARD NOMINEES

    Friends of Lulu has announced the nominees for the 2001 Friends of Lulu Awards.

   In their fifth year, these awards were started to showcase the finest achievements by women in comics, past, present and future.

     For Hall of Fame, the nominees are: Roberta Gregory, Lea Hernandez, Lynn Johnston, Lee Marrs, Linda Medley, Wendy Pini, Trina Robbins, Dorothy Roubicek (AKA Woolfolk), Dori Seda, Rumiko Takahashi, and Hilda Terry .

     Lulu of the Year is presented to the person or book which best reflects the principles of Friends of Lulu during the previous year. This year's nominees include: Sequential Tart (Marcia Allass and staff); Greg Beettam and Stephe Geigen-Miller (Xeno's Arrow); Chynna Clugston-Major (Blue Monday); Mark Crilley (Akiko); Les Daniels (Wonder Woman: The Complete History); Roberta Gregory; Rachel Hartmann (Amy Unbounded); Lea Hernandez (Cathedral Child and Rumble Girls); Janet Hetherington (Eternally Yours); Lynn Johnston (For Better or Worse ); Lawrence Marvit (Sparks); Kevin Mason and Alex Szewczuk (Sleeping Dragons); Scott McCloud (Reinventing Comics); Linda Medley (Castle Waiting); Terry Moore (Strangers in Paradise); Carla Speed McNeil (Finder); Mark Oakley (Thieves and Kings); Paul Pope (THB); Powerpuff Girls, various, edited by Joan Hilty; Trina Robbins and Anne Timmons (Go-Girl!); Dave Roman and John Green (Quicken Forbidden); Posy Simmonds (Gemma Bovery); Jeff Smith (Bone); Jeff Smith and Charles Vess (Rose); Dave McKinnon and Terry Wiley (Sleaze Castle/Petra Etcetra); Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother); Andi Watson (Breakfast After Noon); and Mary Wilshire.

    The Kim Yale award goes to best new female talent.       The awards will be voted on by Friends of Lulu members, and presented in a ceremony on July 19 at Comic-Con International in at 8:30 in room 9 of the San Diego Convention Center. The ceremony is open to the public. Admission is free for members, but a $5 donation is suggested for non-members.

FIRST LOOK: ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #11

   Ultimate Spider-Man #11 will arrive in stores on Thursday from Marvel Comics. The issue is written by Brian Michael Bendis, with art by Mark Bagley and Art Thibert and a cover by Bagley.

   Here's how Marvel describes the issue:

    Humiliated by a prior defeat, Peter Parker sets out to topple the Kingpin. But will the young hero's burning desire for vengeance instead place him into the ham-like hands of Wilson Fisk? Plus: what is the aftermath of the Green Goblin's attack on Midtown High?"

   Exiles #2 will arrive in stores on Thursday from Marvel Comics. The issue is written by Judd Winick, with art by Mike McKone and Mark McKenna and covers by McKone and McKenna and J.H. Williams III.
