ALEX SIMMONS TALKS BLACKJACK MOVIE

Alex Simmons, creator of Blackjack, said one of the first steps in developing the Blackjack movie will be assigning a writer.

"There's a lot of discussion going on about that -- and other aspects of the project -- but no one has been chosen yet," Simmons said. "My main hope is that whoever it is, comes to the table with a desire not only to write a great action film, but also a solid dramatic tale.

Catch 23 Entertainment recently acquired the film rights to Blackjack from Platinum Studios, and has entered into a co-production agreement with Platinum for the development of a feature film based on the material.

Michael Jai White, who starred in Spawn, is in talks to star as Blackjack.

"I met Michael briefly back around the time he did Spawn, but I really don't know him," Simmons said. "I do know that he's enthusiastic about the project, and so I'm hopeful things will work out."

"The story's main hero, Arron Day, just screams out to be a movie character and Michael Jai White is perfect to play him," said Platinum Studios' Scott Rosenberg.

Simmons, who has worked on pitching Blackjack for some four years, said he has high hopes for the film version.

"I want the audience to get more than a rush," he said.." I want them buzzing about this film on a lot of levels -- for a long time to come.

"My hope is that this will be something that we can all be proud of. I've tried to make Blackjack's story appeal to audience across many borders. Yes, he's a black action hero. But he's also a man with his own issues and burdens to overcome. I hope the film will encompass that and more."

DAREDEVIL MOVIE UPDATE

As pre-production of the Daredevil movie continues, the cast for the film continues to fall into place.

According to Daily Variety, Jon Favreau, who starred in Made, is in negotiations to play Foggy Nelson in Daredevil, 20th Century Fox's adaptation.

The film is being written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson and is targeted for a Jan. 17 release.

The cast also include Ben Affleck as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin and Colin Farrell as Bullseye.

Sources told The Continuum that work on Affleck's costume as DD continues.
