GREG HORN DOES RINGLING BROS. POSTER

Following Alex Ross' poster for the Academy Awards, Greg Horn has illustrated the promotional poster for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

"The ad agency representing Ringling had seen my Elektra and BackPack art on the Internet and the next thing you know, I'm doing the biggest -- and best paying -- job of my life," Horn told The Continuum.

"The circus has around 25 million annual attendees, but the immensity of this project did not truly dawn on me until I got a sample of their marketing campaign. The circus is just starting its first show in NYC and already, the art I did for the poster has appeared as a full-page color ad in the New York Times. And last week they unveiled a 45-foot tall billboard near the Port Authority in Manhattan.

"Even better, the circus will be touring 90 cities which means my art work is going to be active for two whole years. It will be published in every major newspaper in America! I can't believe it!"

In addition to the poster, Horn provided some 20 spot illustrations.

"The whole thing took me nearly two months to complete," he said.

Horn told The Continuum will be publishing his first creator-owned project since J.U.D.G.E., the Greg Horn Sketchbook 2002. He previewed it to fans at the recent MegaCon in Orlando, Fla.

"I've been getting a lot of requests for sketches, so after finally completing the Ringling job, I had the itch to do some penciling, and got started on a sketchbook," Horn said. "The result is the Greg Horn Sketchbook 2002 -- real inventive name, I know -- which contains 20 finished illustrations of hot chicks I drew exclusively for this book using several different techniques from line art to fully shaded and a few negative space pieces. The book is offset printed on heavy stock paper and all the artwork is completely finished."

None of the artwork has been published before, and the sketchbook is limited to 1,000 copies. It can be ordered through www.greghornjudge.com.

Horn continues with Elektra covers for Marvel, and has completed all the covers for the Black Widow and Deadline mini-series.

MUTANT X UPDATE

Writing on the second season of the syndicated Mutant X television series has begun.

"The fans can expect to see more of the stuff they like and stuff they haven't seen before," Mutant X executive consultant Howard Chaykin told The Continuum. "The world gets bigger, the stakes are higher and the jeopardy deeper. We're going to put them through more hell in the second season."

Production for Season 2 will likely start in late May.

Meanwhile, Tribune Television has released the remaining schedule for the first season of Mutant X.

New episodes will include "Presumed Guilty" the week of April 8; "Ex Marks the Spot" the week of April 15; "Nothing to Fear" the week of April 22; "Deadly Desire" the week of April 29; "Dancing on the Razor" the week of May 6; and "A Breed Apart" the week of May 13.

Between now and the last six new episodes will be repeats of "Lit Fuse," "In the Presence of Mine Enemies," "Dark Star Rising," "Double Vision" and "Whiter Shade of Pale."

LADY DEATH MOVIE UPDATE

Chaos! Comics' Brian Pulido said that the Lady Death animated movie will be a fuller version of the character's origin story.

"It's a chance for me to go back and rewrite Lady Death's origin," Pulido said. "It's not that there are things I want to change, but there are some things I wanted to expand on."

Pulido said the film will flesh out the middle part of Lady Death's origin that was told in the comic. He also says the Cremator character will be tweaked.

"Instead of being a sidekick, he's given more Yoda-like qualities," Pulido says. "He's the trainer. He knows how Hell runs, and he's going to teach her because he sees the spark of greatness in her."

Carl Macek and Andy Orjuela are producing Lady Death for ADV Films, with Macek writing the screenplay. The producers are working with SunMin Image Pictures in Korea, under the direction of Young H. Sang, on the animation.

Production is expected to take at least a year. Accompanying this story is an early design of Cremator.

ZACH HOWARD TALKS HELLBOY

Zach Howard will be drawing the new five-page Hellboy story to be included in Steve Jackson Games' Hellboy Role Playing Game.

"It's to lead people into the game," Howard told The Continuum. "Hellboy is teaching the ropes to a new BPRD (Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense) member, and they're shopping for trinkets and magical items in India.

"The guy wanders off into an alley and gets in a fight, and Hellboy comes in and help."

The five-page story will be written by Jai Nitz, Steve Jackson Games' Philip Reed and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

Howard landed the gig after a putting together a sample Hellboy image, which he displayed at the recent MegaCon in Orlando, Fla.

Peter Bergting will ink his pencils.

The Hellboy RPG, targeted for an August release, will also include a new short story by Christopher Golden.
