X-MEN 2 UPDATE

Ralph Winter, producer of X-Men 2, told The Continuum filming on the sequel has crossed the 75-day mark.

"We should finish in early November," Winter told The Continuum. "Footage looks great and we are feeling good about what we are getting."

Winter confirmed that the photo of Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler first published by Ain't It Cool News is authentic.

"We saw a picture of Nightcrawler on AICN yesterday, with a pretty good reaction," Winter said. "Clearly we wanted and still want to do our own release for that character."

In terms of authorized promotional material, Winter said, "We are making some really cool stuff and we will present it in the best possible way that should make everyone really happy."

Winter said a trailer for X-Men 2 is being worked on, although he doesn't know the release date yet.

ANTHONY HOPKINS IN SUPERMAN?

Anthony Hopkins said that he is interested in playing Jor-El in the upcoming Superman movie.

Interviewed by Access Hollywood at the New York premiere of his new Hannibal Lecter movie, Red Dragon, Hopkins was asked if he will be in Superman, which will be directed by Brett Ratner, who is also the director of Red Dragon.

"I think so. You have to ask Brett Ratner, he's the director," Hopkins said. "I haven't even read the script. But, yeah, if he still wants me."

Asked if he wanted Hopkins, Ratner said: "Absolutely."

In related news, Ratner will be a guest on NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly on Thursday, Oct. 10.

CODE 6 COMICS' THE CROSSOVERS

Code 6 Comics is launching the new monthly comedy adventure series The Crossovers, by veteran comics writer and novelist Robert Rodi and artist Mauricet, in January.

The Crossovers is the second scheduled title from CrossGen's new Code 6 line, following the December release of the fantasy series R.A. Salvatore's DemonWars.

Here is how Code 6 describes the book:

"The Crossovers is the story of what appears on the outside to be a normal, suburban family, but on the inside is something completely different. Set in a world reminiscent of a TV sit-com, the Crossovers family is made up of father Carter, mother Calista, daughter Cristina, and son Clifford. All appears normal with them until they each head off on their own and the real action begins. Carter's secret identity is that of Archetype, his city's costumed defender. Calista goes from soccer mom to slayer of vampires. Cris travels through a dimensional portal that transfers her onto the field of battle as Eradika the warrior woman. And conspiracy theories and aliens follow Clifford wherever he goes.

"This book is going to be a blast," said Ian M. Feller, Director of Business Development for Code 6 Comics. "From the moment I read that the concept was a satiric spoof of all genre entertainment, including superheroes, I knew this one was a winner. Then when Rob Rodi began sending in his plots and Mauricet began sending in his character designs, it sealed it for me. The Crossovers has everything readers want from a comic: action, adventure, intrigue and it's darn funny."

Rodi sold his first comics story to Marvel's Epic Illustrated in 1982. It was 18 years before he sold the next one. In between he wrote criticism for The Comics Journal and published six novels, including What They Did To Princess Paragon, a satire of the comics industry, and the Hollywood farce Bitch Goddess. He has written the mini-series Four Horsemen and currently writes Codename: Knockout for Vertigo.

Artist Mauricet, or Momo, is a Belgian artist that has worked extensively in Europe. His work has appeared in numerous advertising as well as the weekly children's magazine Spirou. Casterman in Brussels currently publishes his horror series for kids, Mort de Trouille. He also drew a 46-page superhero parody hardback album for Semic in France titled Cosmic Patrouille. In 1998 Momo received his first work in the U.S. when he was asked to draw 32 Batman illustrations for DC Licensing for a children's activity book. He has also drawn a story in the soon-to-be released Tales of Tellos #4 and six pages in Adventures of Superman #598.

ROLLING STONES ON THE SIMPSONS

Fox has released two new images from upcoming episodes of The Simpsons, one of which features two members of The Rolling Stones.

"The Island of Dr. Monroe" has a definite effect on The Simpsons in the annual Halloween trilogy, "Treehouse Of Horror 13," which airs on Sunday, Nov. 3

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones are providing guest-voices for an episode that is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 10.

POWERS, THE PRO SELL OUT

Image Comics has announced that Diamond has sold out of Powers #23 and The Pro.

Powers #23, by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, is the third chapter in the current four-part "Anarchy" storyline. It arrived in stores on Sept. 11.

"We try to keep enough copies available for reorders across the board, but this issue went really fast," said Image Director of Marketing Eric Stephenson. "It makes sense, though: Powers is absolutely one of the best comics on the market right now."

Stephenson added that despite Powers' incredible success over the past three years, Image has been actively seeking ways to get Powers in front of new readers, both through promotional campaigns geared toward comic book stores that aren't currently ordering the series and online marketing.

The Pro -- by Garth Ennis, Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti -- sold out, despite being overprinted by one-third. A second printing of The Pro will be available in early October with an all-new cover by Conner, Palmiotti and colorist Paul Mounts.

"I'm overwhelmed by the response this book has received. I never realized there were so many blasted perverts out there!" said Image vice-president and publisher Jim Valentino. "No, seriously, I think this is one of the funniest, sharpest and best books of the year, and I couldn't be happier."

"The Pro is doing what we'd hoped: getting people who don't normally read comics to track this down and hit the local comic shops," Palmiotti said. "We're glad that everyone is enjoying it, and we hope the second printing will help those who didn't get a copy."

Image will also be offering a limited edition signed and numbered version of The Pro Convention Special that was sold at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego.

FIRST LOOK: UNCANNY X-MEN #414

Uncanny X-Men #414 arrives in stores on Wednesday from Marvel Comics. The issue is written by Chuck Austen, with art by Sean Phillips and a cover by Steve Uy.

Marvel did not provide any story information with the solicitation of this issue, other than that it features Northstar.

Uncanny X-Men #414 will be 32 pages and will cost $2.25.
