JUSTICE LEAGUE ANIMATED UPDATE

Paul Dini is writing an episode for the second season of Cartoon Network's Justice League animated series.

Dini's two-part episode is called "Comfort and Joy."

"I'm just finishing the script this week," Dini told The Continuum. "It's a sweet little stand alone episode that shows what happens when various team members go their separate ways for the holidays."

An injury prevented Dini from writing for the first season of the show.

BATMAN #608: SECOND PRINTING SOLD OUT

DC Comics announced on Tuesday that the second printing of Batman #608 has sold out at the company less than a week after its in-store date.

Batman #608, the first issue by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee, was named the top-selling comic of October.

"I'm flabbergasted," Lee said. "The response from retailers and fans has been completely beyond what Jeph and I expected. And this is only after the first issue! This kind of thing is unheard of, in my experience - it's exciting!"

"This is so overwhelming, it's hard to imagine it getting better," Loeb said. "And then I remember that we're only on the first issue! There's all kinds of good stuff coming: Superman, The Joker, Nightwing... All of us on the team want to thank the retailers and the readers who are spreading the good word and getting folks racing into the stores to buy not only Batman, but other great titles as well!"

"I don't recall ever running out of a second printing so quickly," said Vince Letterio, DC's Manager - Direct Sales. "The response from retailers has been overwhelmingly positive, indicating a swift sell-through and strong word-of-mouth. Expect the continued strong quality of the stories to sustain this positive momentum."

MIDNIGHT MOVER FROM ONI PRESS

Oni Press in March will launch Midnight Mover, a four-issue mini-series by crime writer Gary Phillips and artists Jeremy Love and Jeff Wasson.

Featuring covers by Harley Quinn artist Mike Huddleston, this tale of sex and murder features the seedy world of the Los Angeles porn industry more commonly found on late night pay cable than in comic books.

"Gary Phillips isn't like other comic writers," said series editor James Lucas Jones. "He brings a different kind of wit, experience, and point-of-view to a North American comic scene that often seems stagnant. Shot Callerz, his first comics work, brought the intensity and street-level brutality of his prose to a whole new audience. Midnight Mover promises the same urban thrills and even crazier characters."

Midnight Mover's story of dominatrix detectives and past-their-prime porn stars follows ex-military man and current stoner Danny Shaw. For Danny, blunts keep the pain of his existence dull and bearable while chaperonin' hos keeps the rent paid. But when a girl gets knifed on his watch, Danny can kiss all that goodbye and say hello to life on the lam.

"I can't be anybody but me," Phillips said. "These are the kinds of characters I like to write about. Down, dirty, but in the end redeemable. This is the city I like to write about. It's my home and there ain't no place on Earth like L.A. This book is all me-big, bold, and unashamed."

Hot on Danny's trail, Detectives Oh and Padilla just want to find the killer. Well, maybe not. Padilla wouldn't mind a nice dinner with his wife and kids and Oh can barely wait for her next trip to the fetish club. Will the two cops drastically different private lives interfere with their pursuit of Danny? And what about the real killer?

"Oni has made a recommitment to its crime fiction roots in the last year," Oni editor-in-chief Jamie S. Rich said, "The gauntlet Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber threw down with Whiteout has been picked up by the talented likes of Gary Phillips and his collaborators. It's a good time to be a fan of tales about bad people!"

Midnight Mover #1, in stores on March 12, will have 24 pages of black-and-white story and art and will cost $2.95.
