MARC SILVESTRI TALKS WITCHBLADE, X-MEN

Top Cow founder Marc Silvestri told The Continuum that it doesn't look like Witchblade will be returning to television anytime soon.

TNT canceled Witchblade as a series after its second season last summer.

"Right now, no," Silverstri said at a recent convention when asked if Witchblade still had a future on TV. "We're working on a video game right now for it, maybe re-purposing it through that.

"Typically when something like this happens, you have to sit back and let the dust settle a little big. I mean, how many times have you seen Batman?"

There have been rumors that Witchblade might return as a made-for-TV movie with the original cast.

"There's still been some discussions, but it's not really accurate to say yes, something might happen," Silvestri said. "We're not giving up on anything. Besides, we have a lot of other things going on."

The latest Top Cow project announced is On A Pale Horse, based on the Piers Anthony novel and with Jamie Foxx attached to star for Disney. Top Cow will be producing a graphic novel adaptation of the novel sometime late 2003 or early in 2004 with a yet-to-be-determined creative team.

Silvestri said Top Cow's re-make of The A-Team at Fox could be "just around the corner." Also in development are Fathom with James Cameron, Rising Stars at MGM, Inferno at Warner Bros. and The Cleaner with John Woo at MGM.

"We have a script with Rising Stars which is going through a polish and that one could be coming up quickly," Silvestri said.

Silvestri's also busy on the publication end of things. He'll be drawing an X-Men project written by Grant Morrison for Marvel Comics.

"It's just something that seems like a lot of fun and will help both companies out," Silvestri said. "I get to revisit with the X-Men and, when I'm done with that one, we get to play with the X-Men at Top Cow."

Silvestri said work on Top Cow's X-Men project will start around October.

"They're separate," he said. "I do some stuff for them and we get to do some stuff with the X-Men. The one I'm doing for them is a mini-series. I literally got the first script, and it should be a lot of fun."

MUTANT, TEXAS TRADE PAPERBACK

Oni Press will release of the collected version of Paul Dini and J. Bone's all-ages adventure tale, Mutant, Texas: Tales of Sheriff Ida Red in April.

Originally published as a four-issue mini-series, the story focuses on Jingle Belle's superpowered pal and how she came to be the law in her town.

"When I first started tinkering with the idea of a town full of mutants," Dini said, "I saw it as a limitless playground. Anything goes here. The place was originally called Mystic, but a host of nuclear calamities changed all that-just as it changed the townspeople, critters, and plant life into something other than what they started out as. Be it a talking armadillo or a shrinking little girl, nothing is abnormal in a town like Mutant."

Dini said he was pleased with Bone's work on the book.

"I can't tell you how pleased I was with every page Bone turned in," Dini said. "When you have a great imagination but limited artistic ability, it can be hard to get exactly what you see in your head to come out of another artist's pen. With Bone, it was like we were psychically linked or something, because he nailed it every time."

"Paul's just being kind," Bone said. "It's rare as a cartoonist to have a writer give you so much fun stuff to draw. I never knew what was going to be on the next page, but I was always excited to find out."

In addition to the regular four issues, this collection will contain extras, ranging from conceptual sketches, early short stories, and a artful tour guide of the city and its populace.

The Mutant, Texas: Tales of Sherrif Ida Red trade paperback has 128 pages of black-and-white story and art. It ships on April 2 and will cost $11.95.
