ALAN MOORE'S A SMALL KILLING

Avatar Press announced that it will bring Alan Moore's A Small Killing back into print in May.

The oversized, 104-page project is painted by artist Oscar Zarate. The upgraded new edition includes completely remastered artwork and lettering, a commentary article by both Moore and Zarate, and new cover art for both the regular and hardcover editions.

"A Small Killing, of all of the works that I have done over the course of my career, is the one I think of as the one that almost got away. I've always thought it was a wonderful work, one of the best things I've ever done," Moore said.

"Working with Oscar Zarate was an incredible experience and he remains a close friend and colleague to this day. We'd both felt we had outdone ourselves on that particular book. It was released in an unusual format by a publisher who was testing the waters on graphic novels without necessarily a great and inclusive game plan behind that and for whatever reason, it never seemed to receive the attention that I think the work probably deserved. That may not be for me to say any may be for other people to make their mind up about, but for my money, A Small Killing is one of the best pieces of comic book art that I have ever been involved in. I am looking forward to seeing the Avatar edition, released 10 years after the initial release.

"Maybe sensibilities have changed in the intervening decade and maybe that some of the material that we were dealing with then might make more sense if looked at from a vantage point of now. So I'm very much looking forward to this new edition of one of my all-time favorite pieces of work."

Here's how Avatar described the book:

"A Small Killing is the story of Timothy Hole, a successful adman who has just been handed the biggest assignment of his life, marketing a major cola in Russia. But his smooth life begins to unravel as he is stalked by a demonic child that makes him question not just who he is, but how he really effects those around him. It is about the little murders that we all have to make each day just to get by. The trace assassinations of tiny things. Really, how much damage can be done by a small killing?"

The graphic novel will be available in regular and limited hardcover editions.

HOT WHEELS COMICS, ANIMATION

Starlight Runner Entertainment has created dozens of characters and an original storyline built around Hot Wheels cars that will extend into comic book, video and video game properties.

Dubbed Hot Wheels Highway 35 World Race, the storyline created by Starlight Runner celebrates the 35th anniversary of Mattel's Hot Wheels cars.

"All along, we felt this project was tailor-made for us, taking a legendary brand and creating a story-universe to run simultaneously across all mediums," said Jeff Gomez, CEO, Starlight Runner. "We really enjoyed working with Mattel and are proud to see that product featuring our characters and stories are hitting store shelves a mere six months after we were commissioned."

Starlight Runner, working with a Hot Wheels entertainment team, created the storyline and characters debuting in the form of 35 different, small-format comic books, each packaged with a different die-cast metal Hot Wheels World Race vehicle.

They will continue throughout the 35th anniversary year in the form of graphic novels, Web events, and a video game from THQ. The story will culminate in a five-episode video series of computer-animated adventures to be released in retail stores beginning in March.

The storyline incorporates five different terrains (volcano, jungle, desert, ocean and urban), 35 drivers, and a small cadre of villains. Mattel has commissioned 35 miniature comics, one for each race car featured in the World Race campaign, plus a full-sized special edition comic book for Target stores. Additionally, Mattel commissioned a comprehensive property bible and numerous packaging art assets to be used across the World Race™ retail product franchise.

Gomez and Starlight Runner also participated in the adaptation of their storyline and characters into the five-episode Hot Wheels World Race video series, which was digitally animated by Canada's Mainframe Entertainment. Gomez was named as a producer on the series, and scripted the series' second episode with Fabian Nicieza. Starlight Runner Entertainment also provided character designs for the series.
