FUTURE COMICS PANEL
Future Comics is in talks with Cartoon Network for a Metallix animated series, Future's Bob Layton said at a panel last weekend at MegaCon in Orlando, Fla. "We created these characters to translate into another medium," Layton said. "They seem eager about Metallix." In other news from the panel: *A Freemind movie deal might close soon with a "big-name" producer. "We're real confident about this," Layton said. Layton said Freemind should appeal to an A-list actor. "You get to play Stephen Hawking and Superman in the same movie," he said. "It's an actor's dream." * Future's fourth title will launch in August and will be written by Layton. "We have a penciler, but I'm not saying anything yet because we're still negotiating," said Layton, who also is not ready to reveal the book's title. * Layton said Future's plans are to keep the line to four titles. "There may be a one-shot or we'll introduce new characters, but that's it," he said. "If were to put out eight or 10 books, then there's going to be a decision about which Future Comics you're not going to buy." * Future's creative teams include David Michelinie, Bob Hall, Brett Breeding and Tom Smith on Freemind; Michelinie, Ron Lim, Layton and Moose Baumann on Metallix; and Michelinie, Dick Giordano, Jose Marzan and Brad Nault on Deathmask. * Future's first trade paperback will collect Freemind #0-3. Layton said that the Freemind trade will be signed and numbered and that Future's trades will contain new material.
