Smallville has been picked up for a third season, The WB announced on Tuesday. The announcement came at the network's development meeting with advertisers. The WB also renewed Smallville's lead-in, Gilmore Girls, as well as 7th Heaven, Charmed, Reba and Everwood. "The long-term stability of scripted programming creates the foundation for any successful entertainment network," said Jordan Levin, president, entertainment. "These renewals represent a blend of newcomers and veteran shows that continue to attract loyal audiences." Smallville will likely remain in its Tuesday night time slot. NEW FUTURE COMICS TITLE
Future Comics announced on Tuesday that its fourth title, Peacekeeper, will premiere in August. "Peacekeeper promises to be Future Comics' most intriguing title yet, being set in the world of international espionage and intrigue." said writer and Future editor-in-chief Bob Layton. Co-plotted by Future head writer David Michelinie, the first issue of Peacekeeper heralds the Future Comics debut of Pat Broderick and Terry Austin. Layton described the series' premise: "The Brahman Objective is a computer-generated blueprint that could guide humankind to a utopian existence. But in the wrong hands, it could be perverted into a plan to control the world's governments and economies," he said. "The benevolent Peacekeepers have clandestinely existed for over forty years, slowly manipulating global events to conform to the Brahman Objective--until today! "Betrayed by one of their own, the Peacekeepers are all but eliminated. And from the ashes of an unthinkable holocaust, a single survivor rises: a reluctant hero obsessed with justice, retribution...and retrieval of the Brahman Objective! "Being a huge science buff, I'm loading this series with enough next generation hardware to gag a black hole. Our unofficial science consultant, Robert Smithers, has been working closely with me to get all the technology as close to reality as possible. I want this adventure series to be fantastic-yet-credible."
