X-MEN SEQUEL UPDATE

While a third X-Men movie seems likely, X2 producer Ralph Winter said there are no firm plans yet for the direction of the film.

"It's going to be difficult to get all of this cast together again for a third adventure," Winter said. "They're all so busy. They're all expanding out so rapidly in their careers. So we don't have anything specific or concrete, no, not yet."

Winter made his comments last week during an X2 online chat. For a complete transcription, CLICK HERE.

In other X2 news:

* The Weather Channel is teaming up with Twentieth Century Fox to promote the film. Beginning Monday, an advertising campaign will air on the cable network featuring Storm, portrayed by Halle Berry, as she demonstrates her control over Mother Nature in dramatic weather scenes from the new movie.

Exclusively for this campaign, The Weather Channel created video products which include five-second creative extensions that utilize the network's tagging capabilities, thus drawing relevance to Storm's character. The five-second tags will run prior to the commercial units that air directly before and after The Weather Channel network's popular new primetime show, Storm Stories.

"The X2 promotion serves to amplify the film's commercial messages by bridging the gap between 'Storm Stories' content and the Storm character," said Lyn Andrews, president of advertising sales for The Weather Channel. "This unique campaign is a strong example of our commitment to creating personalized advertising packages based on a client's needs."

* A preview of the film will be shown during USA's broadcast of Hollow Man, which starts Sunday at 8:30 p.m. (ET).

* Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, who plays Mystique, will be a guest on NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly on Friday, May 9.

ART OF THE TRANSFORMERS

Image Comics in September will release Genesis: The Art of The Transformers.

The 128-page, 9 1/2" x 12" paperback is being produced by Sebastien Clavet and 88 MPH Studios. Artists contributing to the project include Pat Lee, Mark Brooks, Mark D. Bright, Jun-Ichi Nakamura, James Raiz, Guido Guidi and E.J. Su.

"Genesis is all about passion, born from the desire to offer the world a true collection of high quality artwork depicting my childhood heroes and foes, so in every respect this is a labor of love," said Clavet. "So many great artists have participated in this project and it really became a challenge to choose which artists would do which characters. We had to make some difficult choices, but I think the book's better for it."

"We're thrilled to be offering fans this one-of-a-kind look at The Transformers," said Image Publisher/Vice-President Jim Valentino. "Sebastien Clavet has assembled a truly stunning array of artists for this book and it's really going to be a must-have for Transformers fans everywhere!"

TERMINATOR COVER UPGRADE

Beckett Comics has enhanced the cover to the first issue of Terminator 3: Before the Rise at no extra cost.

The cover, by Jeff Amano and featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator character, will be sculpted and embossed with spot UV coating and holographic foil stamping.

"This isn't a gimmick or a ploy to pump people for more money," Amano said. "We came up with a way to make the cover cooler and more dynamic, so we're doing it. There's no extra cost to the reader. I look at a cover enhancement as part of the art - you're not paying extra for the art, so why should you pay extra for the cool effects?

"We're doing this as an artistic decision, not a financial one. It'll make the cover jump off the stands."

The book is written by Ivan Brandon from a story concept by Amano, Before the Rise chronicles the story of a band of desperate freedom fighters in the future, waging a war against SkyNet and its unstoppable army of mechanical murderers.

Future covers will feature the talents of Essad Ribic and Simon Bisley.

Every issue of the T3 series is published in the 48-page, squarebound bookshelf format. The first two issues of the ongoing series is the official and exclusive prequel to the movie, the next two issues is a movie adaptation from a different perspective including "deleted scenes never filmed" and then moving beyond it.

The first issue of Terminator 3: Before the Rise is scheduled to be in stores in June, a month before the movie hits theaters on July 2.
