HULK MOVIE UPDATE

Promotions for The Hulk movie will kick into gear this weekend, particularly with a campaign involving the National Basketball Association playoffs.

The campaign, which starts on Sunday, involves a series of ads that will run on TNT, ESPN, ABC and other NBA and WNBA programming. They will promote both The Hulk and the NBA playoffs.

TNT will create and air several versions of the commercial for the Eastern Conference semifinals and the Western Conference semifinals and finals. ESPN and ABC will produce and air spots starting on May 31.

"The NBA continues to be at the forefront of popular culture reaching an attractive audience that mirrors The Hulk's largest demographic," said Anthy Evergates-Price, Universe Pictures senior vice-president media. "The combination of one of the premiere sporting events with one of the biggest theatrical events, delivers an impactful message that perfectly promotes the power and excitement of both properties."

"The high-energy, high-reach environment of the NBA playoffs on TNT attracts the young and hard-to-reach movie-going audience and, with a successful track record which includes helping to open other Universal hit movies like The Mummy, Scorpion King and U571, we're looking forward to seeing The Hulk slam dunk at the box office," said Chris Earnes, Turner Sports senior-vice president, sports and entertainment sponsorship sales and marketing.

"We're thrilled to be a part of Universal Studio's marketing strategy for The Hulk," said Ed Erhardt, president, ESPN ABC sports customer marketing and sales. "The impact of ESPN and ABC Sports NBA playoff and Finals programming we offer directly reaches their target audience, which makes this relationship an important fit to reach fans in a huge way."

"The Hulk will certainly be one of the event movies of the summer and it will be showcased to millions of NBA fans during the most exciting time of our season," said Heidi Ueberroth, NBA Entertainment executive vice president.

X2 UPDATE

X2 has passed the $100-million mark and will likely top the box-office for a second week after this weekend.

The film stands at $103.4 million after six days of release and should easily top the $154.7 that X-Men posted in 2000.

Analysts project at least another $40 million this weekend and that X2 should top Daddy Day Care as the No. 1 film.

X2's run at the top of the box office is expected to end with the release of The Matrix: Reloaded next week.

In other X2 news:

* Newmarket Press is releasing The Art of X2, the official companion book on the making of the film, in two different editions, a trade paperback and a hardcover Collector's Edition, with a total of three different covers, blue and red for the paperback, with different film characters, and embossed with foil for the hardcover.

The trade paperback will be 160 pages and will cost $19.95. The hardcover is 264 pages and will cost $40.

Both paperback and hardcover editions include more than 300 full-color images that showcase film stills, concept drawings, set designs and photos, costume sketches, make-up test stills, and storyboards for four sequences of the film. They also feature sections on 11 of the characters, an introduction on "[Director Bryan] Singer's X-Men" and commentary throughout from production designer Guy H. Dyas.

In addition, the hardcover Collector's Edition includes the film's script, a spectacular 8-page visual gatefold of Nightcrawler posters and a 16-page section of special effects art from the first X-Men film.

The Blue paperback cover features: Storm (Halle Berry), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Cyclops (James Marsden), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos), Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Deathstrike (Kelly Hu), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Rogue (Anna Paquin)

The Red paperback cover features: Storm, Wolverine, Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), Pyro (Aaron Stanford), Rogue, Magneto and Jean Grey (Famke Janssen).

DREAMWAVE'S NECROWAR

Dreamwave Productions has provided The Continuum with preview images of its new ongoing series Necrowar, which launches in July.

The series is written by Simon Furman, with digitally painted artwork by Adi Granov. Furman is working off of Pat Lee's original concepts.

Here's how Dreamwave describes the first issue:

"In a war without limits, against an enemy without number, a radically new breed of soldier is the only possible response. As the Dark Matter forces of the Progeny sweep through the universe, deconstructing the very stuff of space itself, five recruits step into the firing line, wrapped in living battle suits. Unknown to them, though, they've been selected not to do... but rather to die!"

Necrowar #1 will be 32 pages and will cost $2.95.
