LOU FERRIGNO TALKS THE HULK

Lou Ferrigno, star of The Incredible Hulk television series, told The Continuum that he is as eager as fans to see The Hulk movie.

"I haven't seen any of it yet," Ferrigno said in a phone interview on Tuesday morning. "I'm really anxious to see it."

Ferrigno has a small role as the head of security in the movie. He said he recently returned for additional filming.

The Hulk in the movie is computer-generated, and Ferrigno said that "is sort of a compliment," and then added with a laugh, "But he can't sign autographs."

Ferrigno is promoting the June 3 release of The Incredible Hulk on DVD. The DVD features the original two-hour pilot movie from 1978 starring Bill Bixby and Ferrigno.

"I think it's great that a lot of people are getting the chance to learn about the Hulk," Ferrigno said. "There's an interview with Stan Lee and me talking about the Hulk and the television series."

In addition to the pilot movie, the DVD will contain "Married," the two-hour episode that launched the second season and earned guest-star Mariette Hartley an Emmy Award, and several bonuses, including a preview of the feature film.

"From the minute we started filming I knew it would be successful," Ferrigno said of The Incredible Hulk. "All the chemistry was there: there was a great actor in Bill Bixby, the way they were filming it and I knew nobody could play the Hulk except me."

A comics convention staple, Ferrigno said he enjoys shows like the Comic-Con International in San Diego. "The fans get excited and want to take a picture with me," he said. "It's like a real-life super-hero is there."

Ferrigno continues his 25-year career as a personal trainer and is still acting, appearing as a recurring guest-star on CBS' King of Queens. "I love comedy and appearing on stage," Ferrigno said.

TODD NAUCK'S WILDGUARD

WildGuard: Casting Call, a six-issue mini-series written and drawn by Todd Nauck, will launch in September from Image Comics.

Inspired by reality shows like American Idol, Pop Stars and Making the Band, Wild Guard follows a host of heroes as they endure the agony of competition and a myriad of unforeseen dangers in the hope of being selected by an elite panel of judges, including the mysterious "Producer X."

Who will make the cut and who won't will largely be determined by readers, though: Nauck is inviting fans to vote for the final WildGuard team by logging on to www.wildguard.com and picking the heroes they want on the team.

"The concept for WildGuard goes back to 1992, when I was at the Art Institute of Dallas," Nauck said. "Being a fan of the show Cops, I wanted to see the same concept with superheroes. I produced two mini-comics featuring WildGuard which helped me to break into comics in 1994. Now I have the chance to bring WildGuard to the comic stands full length and full color. A dream come true!"

In addition to being Nauck's first foray into creator-owned comics, WildGuard also marks his return to Image Comics. A nine-year veteran of the comics industry, Nauck began in comics at Image on titles like Extreme Studios' New Men, Supreme and Badrock & Company. Since then, Nauck has drawn comics for Marvel, DC and Dark Horse, including Sensational Spider-Man, Superman, Supergirl and a 50+ issue run on Young Justice. Nauck is also one of several creators contributing to Jay Faerber's Noble Causes: Extended Family one-shot, due out this month from Image.

"I've had a great time working in comics and contributing to many great characters and series," Nauck said. "Young Justice was one of the best experiences and really got my work out to a larger audience. Now to have an opportunity to create my own comic and characters is taking my experience in the industry to a whole new level for me."

Nauck is calling on the aid of several artists over the course of the six-issue mini-series. Arthur Adams, Keron Grant, Paco Medina, Ed McGuinness, Phil Noto and Mike Weiringo will each contribute variant covers (one per issue) depicting who they would choose to make up WildGuard.

Also on board for the series is inker Lary Stucker, no stranger to Nauck's pencils after inking him not only on Young Justice but much of his earlier work for Extreme Studios, and colorist Tom McCraw.

"It's been great to work with Lary for so long and develop our craft together," said Nauck. "He takes my critiques really well and is always open to trying new approaches to inking my pencils. Tom has been really cool to work with. He's a colorist who's not afraid to color every character and detail. I appreciate that. Especially since the first two issues are chock full of heroes!"

The first issue of WildGuard will feature two covers: a wraparound cover by Nauck, plus a variant by McGuinness and Stucker.
