PUNISHER MOVIE: NERISSA PREST INTERVIEW

TAMPA, Fla. -- For a few hours, Nerissa Prest became a glutton for punishment.

Prest, who works as WFLA News Channel 8's weekend anchor, and co-anchor Josh Thomas were part of the very first scenes filmed for The Punisher movie. The production actually visited the station's studios for an authentic look for a newscast scene.

The Continuum caught up with Prest, who joined the station last November, to talk about the filming.

The Continuum: How did the opportunity come up?

Prest: We heard The Punisher Folks were seeking out real talent for their movie. From what I understand, they contacted Newschannel 8 and a few other stations about recruiting our talent. The marketing department tells me the directors came to our station and viewed some of our air checks then selected the talent they wanted. My weekend co-anchor Josh Thomas and I were the lucky winners!

The Continuum: Can you describe your scene?

Prest: Basically we are news anchors playing news anchors. Doing what we do everyday, only a Hollywood director wrote our script based on the plot of the movie. The writer/director of the film, Jonathan Hensleigh, gave us some room to tweak a few words here and there in the script to personalize it, then we just taped it on the news set as if it was breaking news.

The Continuum: How did it go?

Prest: It was great! I've never been involved in anything like this. The job wasn't too tough because I just did what I do everyday.. I anchored the news. It went really fast. I think they took only two takes at two separate news set locations from each of us (Josh and I). We were done in less than an hour. Eventhough I was just reading the news. It was fun to do it Hollywood style. I was sad when the taping was over. Hopefully we won't wind up a deleted scene.

The Continuum: How big a deal is it for Tampa to have the production?

Prest: It's a pretty big deal. It's causing some refreshing excitement here. A lot of folks are getting word of the the shooting days and showing up on location in hopes of seeing some Hollywood stars who you don't normally see walking around our local streets here everyday. Normally production companies shoot films in NYC or LA but the director saw something worthwhile in Tampa Bay and that's great. It's great to that Tampa Bay is getting some play on the big screen. It is a beautiful area... Picturesque beaches... a clean downtown ... hip and charismatic city hot spots... Why wouldn't you want to shoot a movie here?
