SMALLVILLE UPDATE

Smallville officially moved into its new night for The WB on Wednesday and its season premiere was back at or near the top of its competition in key demos.

Smaallville placed #1 in men 12-34 (3.8/13), teens (3.5/13), female teens (3.4/13) and male teens (3.6/12), #2 in adults 18-34 (3.8/12), persons 12-34 (3.7/12) and men 18-34 (3.9/13) and #3 in women 18-34 (3.7/11), women 12-34 (3.6/11) and adults 18-49 (3.0/8).

In other Smallville news, The WB released six images from "Extinction," the episode scheduled to air on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"Clark (Tom Welling) discovers someone is hunting people affected by the kryptonite rocks and the killer's next target is Lex (Michael Rosenbaum). Clark uses his powers to save Lex, but is caught off guard when the killer learns his weakness and shoots him with a kryptonite bullet."

MUTANT X UPDATE

"The Breed," a new episode of Mutant X, is scheduled to air in syndication the week of Oct. 13.

Here's how Tribune Entertainment describes the episode:

"The Mutant X team is brought in to help a military base that has become infected with a deadly disease."

The episode was written by Michelle Lovretta and directed by Jorge Montesi.

* Victoria Pratt, who plays Shalimar, was a guest on ESPN radio on Thursday to promote this week's third-season premiere. Pratt discussed her athletic career and her action/adventure roles.

SANDMAN ON NEW YORK TIMES LIST

DC Comics' Vertigo graphic novel The Sandman: Endless Nights by Neil Gaiman has debuted at number 20 for hardcover fiction on the New York Times Best Sellers List, marking the first time ever an American comic-book publisher has earned a spot on the list.

The original graphic novel, which was released on Sept. 17, is a collection of seven short stories - one each for the Endless siblings: Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium, Destruction, Destiny and Dream.

"We are extremely proud to have this extraordinary graphic novel mark the growing importance of the category to book buyers across the country and congratulate Neil and join him in thanking his readers," said Paul Levitz, president and publisher, DC Comics.

According to DC, The Sandman: Endless Nights has been recognized as a turning point for the graphic novel genre by sources from The New York Times and Entertainment Weekly to USA Today and Publishers Weekly.

TRANSFORMERS: THE WAR WITHIN VOL. 2 #1 PREVIEW

Dreamwave Productions has provided The Continuum with a five-page preview from the upcoming Transformers: The War Within Vol. 2 #1.

The issue is written by Simon Furman, penciled by Andrew Wildman, inked by Erik Sanders and colored by Dreamwave Colors.

Here's how Dreamwave describes the issue:

"Everything old is new again! More secrets of Cybertron's dark past are revealed, as a second chapter of Transformers: The War Within sheds light on... The Dark Ages! Optimus Prime and Megatron are missing, presumed dead, the civil war for control of Cybertron has degenerated into a dark cauldron of confusion and turmoil, splinter factions clashing in endless border skirmishes.
