SILVER SURFER UPDATE

Marvel Comics on Monday released a preview of Silver Surfer #2, which has been rescheduled for an Oct. 29 release.

The new ongoing series by writers Stacy Weiss and Dan Chariton debuted in July, but had to be put on hold while a new regular artist was found after the departure of original series artist Milx. That resulted in a long wait for #2, and Lan Medina becoming the new artist.

"We needed to find just the right artist, someone who could continue the painterly look we'd established in the first issue," said series editor Tom Brevoort. "Lan Medina and his cohort [colorist] Brian Haberlin fit the bill perfectly, allowing us to get the series back on track looking as good - if not better - than ever!"

Silver Surfer #2 continues the "Communion" storyline focusing on the Silver Surfer's strange and alien nature, uncovering the mystery of his abduction of small children from all around the world.

The issue will feature a cover by Jae Lee.

Silver Surfer #3 is now scheduled for a Nov. 26 release.

NEW TEEN TITANS EPISODE

"Apprentice, Pt. 2" is the new episode of Teen Titans scheduled to air on Saturday on Cartoon Network.

Here's how the episode is described:

"With no signs of Robin since Slade's "Chronoton Detonator" turned out to be a fake, the four remaining Teen Titans search the city for their missing leader. But their search is cut short when the Titan signal alerts them to a new villain in town. And when they arrive on the scene at a High-Tech defense lab, they are shocked to discover that this new villain is none other than Robin himself (wearing a sinister new Slade insignia villain costume.) Unaware that Robin is only serving Sleet save his friends from the Baroscopic Probes inside them, the bewildered Titans think Robin has gone over to the other side. And it's Titan versus Titan as our unwilling new villain goes up against our reluctant heroes. Can Robin fight his friends without hurting them? Will he find a way to stop Slade without triggering the probes? Will the Titans find out what's wrong in time to help? Is this really the end of the Teen Titans?"

SPAWN CHARACTER REVEALED

Namco Hometek and Todd McFarlane Productions on Monday announced the official name of Mammon, a character known for his mysterious appearances.

Until Monday, Mammon has been portrayed as a background character that appeared in dark, hidden shadows. Mammon is now slated to take on a much more proactive, even major, role in both the upcoming video game as well as in the Spawn comic book with appearances beginning in Spawn #133. The video game, Spawn: Armageddon, is scheduled to release in November on the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system, the Nintendo GameCube and the Xbox video game system from Microsoft.

Ever enigmatic in his past actions and future intentions, Mammon has been described by as Spawn's personal guide and mentor whose wisdom is often sought during Spawn's ongoing conflicts between the forces of Heaven and Hell. Though his motives remain unclear to Spawn, Mammon is extremely knowledgeable and Spawn has little choice but to use Mammon's wisdom to his advantage.

"Bringing Mammon, his personality and the intense history between Mammon and Spawn to the forefront of the franchise's storyline is something that I've been thinking about since I originally wrote the character into the script," McFarlane said. "When the opportunity arose to introduce Mammon through the Spawn video game, it was obvious that this was the way to roll out the red carpet for the character. Good, Neutral or Evil, it's safe to say that Spawn fans will have the opportunity to get to know Mammon in much greater detail over the next several comic book episodes and, of course, the new Spawn game."

The true nature of the relationship between Spawn and Mammon remains ambiguous. Mammon keeps a low profile when he isn't talking with Spawn, preferring to let Spawn act for him. He wears many faces, but usually prefers to exhibit the air of a well-mannered and intelligent gentleman.
