Saturday, October 18, 2003PUNISHER MOVIE UPDATEArtisan Entertainment on Friday released the new poster image of Thomas Jane from The Punisher movie. (Click on the thumnbail for a full image). Principal photography on the film wrapped this week under the direction of Jonathan Hensleigh, with an April 16 release now set. In addition to Jane, John Travolta, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Laura Harring and Samantha Mathis as the main actors, Artisan also announced supporting cast members Roy Scheider, Will Patton, Ben Foster, James Carpinello, Mark Collie, Eddie Jemison, Russell Andrews, John Pinette and Kevin Nash. Locations for The Punisher included downtown Tampa, The Tampa Port, Ybor City, Ft. DeSoto State Park, Honeymoon Island State Park, the Old Federal Courthouse and The University of South Florida. Behind-the-scenes talent includes cinematographer Conrad W. Hall, production designer Michael Hanan and costume designer Lisa Tomczeszyn. SMALLVILLE UPDATE"Perry," a new episode of The WB's Smallville, is scheduled to air on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Here's how the network describes the episode: "Perry White (guest star Michael McKean), a once promising journalist whose career was destroyed by Lionel Luthor (John Glover), arrives in Smallville in search of alien stories for a tabloid news show. In spite of being constantly inebriated, Perry believes he has witnessed Clark (Tom Welling) using his extraordinary speed, so he devises a dangerous scheme to expose Clark's superpowers. Meanwhile, Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) learns that Perry has powerful incriminating evidence of Lionel's shady past." The episode was written by Mark Verheiden and directed by Jeannot Szwarc. * According to the network, the Wednesday combo of Smallville and Angel held up "extremely well" against two highly rated baseball playoff games on Fox. The "Extinction" episode of Smallville finished No. 2 in its time period, behind only the baseball games, in adults 18-34 (3.6 rating/11 share), persons 12-34 (3.7/12), men 18-34 (3.6/11), men 12-34 (3.9/12), men 18-49 (2.9/8) and male teens (4.7/16). Smallville was also No. 3 in women 18-34 (3.6/11), women 12-34 (3.5/12), adults 18-49 (2.8/8) and No. 1 in teens (4.0/15) and female teens (3.3/14). * Allison Mack, who plays Chloe, will be a return guest at MegaCon in Orlando, Fla., on March 5-6. * Look for more Smallville news soon here in The Continuum.
CROSSGEN CANCELS TITLESCrossGen Entertainment on Friday announced the final issues of nine titles as events build toward its The War event next spring. Last issues include Crux #33, The First #37, Meridian #44, Mystic #43, The Path #23, Ruse #26, Scion #44, Sigil #43 and Solus #8. In a statement from the publisher: "When The War hits in 2004, our greatest warriors will finally collide with an invading evil as alliances shatter, worlds burn, and destinies are fulfilled. While some characters will reach their story's end, others will move forward in surprising ways. Prepare to cheer, cry, and gasp as the stage is set for the next generation of adventure." NEW MUTANT X EPISODE"The Taking of Crows," a new episode of Mutant X, is scheduled to air in syndication the week of Oct. 27. Here's how the episode is described: "When Lexa (Karen Cliche, pictured right) is unknowingly drugged with a lethal substance, the team must race to find the antidote before it's too late." The episode, the fifth of the third season, was written by Bob Carner and directed by Andrew Potter. Guest-stars include Salvatore Migliore, Gary Farmer, Jessica Stein, Suzanne Coy and David Hewlett.
