STATIC SHOCK UPDATE

Veteran comics/animation aritst Rick Hoberg told The Continuum that he did storyboard work on four episodes of the upcoming season of Kids' WB!'s Static Shock.

"The stories are very nicely written," Hoberg said last weekend at the Las Vegas Comic Convention. "It's a well-done show."

One of the more interesting episodes that Hoberg worked on involved players from the National Basketball Association, including Karl Malone, Yao Ming, Steve Nash and Vince Carter.

"They actually become super-powered," Hoberg said. "They put on super-powered suits."

Despite various time periods and a yearly hiatus from the Kids' WB! schedule, Static Shock continues to be popular.

"No matter where it is in the lineup, the core audience has found it," Hoberg said.

Hoberg, whose animation credits include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Fox Kids' X-Men, also worked on an upcoming episode of Cartoon Network's Justice League. "It involves Gorilla Grodd and a new group of super-villains," he said.

Hoberg remains active in comics, drawing a Batman Family one-shot last year and producing comics for the NBA, independent from the Static episode. He is currently writing and drawing Gizmo and Gears for ModernTales.com.

"It's the best thing that I've ever done," Hoberg said. "It's basically an homage to Magnus Robot Fighter and Metal Men and those kinds of comics I enjoyed as a kid."

TOP COW'S BIG MARCH

A crossover, a relaunch and a special cover are on tap from Top Cow Productions in March.

Top Cow will team Dreamwave Productions on Darkminds/Witchblade. The 48-page one-shot that will be written by David Wohl, and Dreamwave's Pat Lee will provide the cover.

"Hopefully, we'll be doing more work with Dreamwave," Top Cow's Joel Elad told The Continuum.

Codename: Strykeforce will return in March, with a five-issue arc written by Jay Faerber and drawn by Tyler Kirkham.

"We're keeping Stryker and one other character from the old series," Elad said.

Sojourn artist Greg Land is providing the cover to Tomb Raider #40, a standalone story that serves as a jumping-on point to the series.

In other Top Cow news:

* Elad said voting has been brisk for the Witchblade death pool. The final results will be in April's Witchblade #75.

* Top Cow's crossovers with Marvel -- Witchblade/Wolverine and Darkness/Hulk -- are slated for mid-2004. Paul Jenkins and Dale Keown will team on Darkness/Hulk.

"On Angel's Wings"
