CATWOMAN MOVIE UPDATEDC Comics will be publishing adaptations of the upcoming Catwoman and Constantine films from Warner Bros., DC's Dan DiDio told The Continuum. "It would seem kind of silly not to," said DiDio, DC's VP -- publishing, at Wizard World Texas on Sunday. DiDio said the creative teams and formats have not been finalized yet. It's possible that instead of simply a film-to-comic translation, the books will contain features and other materials, similar to DC's ongoing Smallville comic. DC has comics based on all three of its current television shows, Smallville on The WB, Justice League on Cartoon Network and Teen Titans on Cartoon Network and Kids' WB!. Neither Catwoman nor Constantine has a release date yet. Both films are currently in production and will likely be summer releases. DiDio said the adaptations would come out just before the movies. In other Catwoman news: * Halle Berry, who plays the title character, will have both of her recent CBS talk-show appearances rebroadcast. She will be The Late Show with David Letterman on Thursday, Dec. 4, where she talked about Catwoman and Letterman displayed a photo of her in costume. She will also be on The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn. * Look for more on Catwoman very soon here in The Continuum.
SMALLVILLE UPDATEAllison Mack, who plays Chloe Sullivan in Smallville, appeared at Wizard World Texas on Sunday, her third major convention appearance of the year. Mack was originally scheduled to appear on Saturday and Sunday, but had to opt out Saturday. Nevertheless, she was greeted with long lines of fans for her signing on Sunday. Mack, who previously appeared at the Wizard World show in Philadelphia and Comic-Con International in San Diego, is scheduled to appear at MegaCon in Orlando in March. In other Smallville news: * Despite previous published reports, it appears now that Chloe will not be introduced as a character in the Superman comics titles. Sources tell The Continuum there will be a Smallville influence in the Superman: Birthright maxi-series, though. * The Wednesday, Dec. 10 episode will be a repeat of "Exodus," the second-season finale.
KURT BUSIEK TALKS ASTRO CITY MOVIEKurt Busiek told The Continuum that he is cautiously optimistic about the prospects of an Astro City movie. This past week it was announced that Busiek, producer Ben Barenholtz and screenwriter Jonathan Alpers are developing the movie under their newly formed Panama Leo banner. "It's the start of a long road," Busiek told The Continuum Sunday at Wizard World Texas. "Most movie projects don't happen, and we've gotten a lot further than most of them do. But until I'm in the cineplex eating popcorn and watching the movie ... there's a long way to go." Busiek said he is developing a treatment for the film. Alpers will write the screenplay. The announcement was a bit of a surprise considering Busiek had not expressed interest in developing the property as a film. "The movie guys have come to me and I have said I'm not interested, and they go away," Busiek said. "These guys (Barenholtz and Alpers) wouldn't go away. They seemed to understand the property. It needs action, but the characters' story is paramount. "So here we are." Astro City is currently an independent production.
