X2 UPDATE

X2 is proving to be as big of a success in the home video market as it was in theaters.

According to a report by Variety, the X-Men sequel pulled in $107 million in its first five days of release on DVD and VHS.

Some six million units were sold last week, with an estimated 10 million in dometstic sales possible.

In other X2 news, director Bryan Singer recently revealed that the final fate of Famke Janssen's Jean Grey in the film wasn't decided until the movie was already in production.

"Jean's expanded power was touched on very subtlely in scene in the first movie," Singer said during a convention panel appearance. "After this big Liberty Island scene stopped the master plan of Magneto's, and its cuts to her and there's something's gone on there. It's not for everyone one to notice really, except for us, and it builds subsequently to the second film.

"We didn't make the final decision that Jean would die until the beginnings of shooting. And I didn't tell Famke about it until the one day we were in the museum scene and I think the line, the dialogue, as I recall, on that day, 'My dreams are getting worse. Things are happening,' was really added that morning.

"And I took her into a trailer and I said, 'We're going to something different with your character.' And she went, 'What?' And it's a two-way street with the actress, but she immediately responded to it because it gave her something more to play, something larger, something more going on with her."

Singer also noted that seeds are being planted into the franchise with the younger mutants.

"Down the road, maybe those younger can grow up to be junior X-Men and X-Men," Singer said.

STATIC SHOCK UPDATE

Kids' WB! on Saturday presented a short preview from an episode of the upcoming season of Static Shock that guest-stars Batman Beyond.

The clip of the episode, which is expected to be the fourth season's premiere, shows Batman and Static Shock tussling in the Batcave.

Batman figures to be one of several guest-stars in the upcoming season.

Phil LaMarr, who does the voice of Static, said the Milestone hero will be teaming with the Green Lantern from Justice League -- also voiced by LaMarr.

Anasi, the hero from last season's "Static in Africa" episode, will return, and Static will also team with several National Basketball Association players.

Kids' WB! has yet to announce the premiere date for the new season of Static Shock, but it is expected to be launch in early 2004.

IDW'S SILENT HILL

IDW Publishing has provided The Continuum with a five-page preview of Silent Hill: Dying Inside #1, the first issue of a five-issue mini-series that launches in February.

The issue is written by Scott Ciencin, with art by Templesmith.

Here's how IDW describes the book, which is based on Konami's video games:

"Welcome to Silent Hill, a mist-enshrouded, nightmare town tht will tear your soul apart.

"In the five-issue mini-series Dying Inside, readers will be treated to two complete (and interlocking) tales of high-octane horror by Scott Ciencin. Issues one and two, illustrated by Ben Templesmith, focuse on Doctory Troy Abernathy, an arrogant psychiatrist with a horrifying secret, and his patienct, Lynn DeAngelis, a young woman who once escaped this town with her life (if not her sanity) ... and footage of the monstrosities who reside in Silent Hill and seemed to be controlled by the demon-child Christabella.

"In a blazing, action-filled storyling that is rich in characterization, Troy's inner ghost nightmarishly come to life -- and it is up to Lynn to save them both. The double-barreled action and fear keep right on going in issues three through five, illustrated by newcomer Aadi Salman, as the wild teenage goth Lauryn and her friends are drawn to Silent Hill by Lynn DeAngelis' 'lost' footage.

"A mystery has been found in those shadowy images, a dark lure promising untold power and wealth ... or so Lauryn tells her goth friends. But the truth is far more terrifying, especially when Lauryn produces a black book of very arcane spells and uses it to take on Silent Hill's unyielding legion of monstrosities and the twisted demon-child Christabella."
