FIRST LOOK: TRANSFORMERS/G.I. JOE #4Transformers/G.I. Joe #4 will arrive in stores on Wednesday from Dreamwave Productions. The issue is written by John Ney Rieber, with art by Jae Lee and colors by June Chung. Here's how Dreamwave describes the issue: "Desperate times. Desperate measures. The Joes and the Autobots face overwhelming Decepticon power as they struggle to establish a beach head for the U.S. invasion force-- ;ittle suspecting that there'll be no reinforcements, thanks to the treacherous Zartan. Unless Lady Jaye can fight her way past the psychotic Wild Weasel, the sadistic Baroness...and the invincible dreadnought known as Bruticus. Meanwhile, with Cobra Island's defenses crumbling before the combined strength of the Joes and the Autobots, Cobra Commander and Megatron turn the tide of battle by exploiting the heroes' greatest vulnerability--their sense of honor...and the value of innocent life. But when Optimus Prime has seen the horrors that the empire of evil inflicts on its victims, only one thing matters to the noble leader of the Autobots: smashing Megatron. Characters who defined the concepts of 'hero' and 'villain' for generations redefine them with grit, heart, and adrenaline in this epic 6-issue miniseries." Transformers/G.I. Joe #4 will be 32 pages and will cost $2.95.
BRIEFLYThe cover is a riff on old EC horror comics like Tales From the Crypt and Vault of Horror. Readers can submit cover blurbs for PvP #7 through Kurtz's web site, www.pvponline.com. If their blurb is chosen and used, they win: 1) A credit in the book; 2) A copy of the issue signed by Kurtz and Wieringo; 3) The original art from one of the strips in the issue. "I wish I could take credit for the idea but it was all Mike Wieringo," said Kurtz. "He was familiar with the storyline and knew that a riff on the old EC Horror comics would be perfect. "I met Mike at a convention a couple of years ago and I was blown away to find out he reads PvP on a daily basis. This issue spotlights my only female character and I wanted her to get the royal treatment on the cover. Mike's art can have a cartoony edge that fits PvP and he really played that up for me. Mike manages to draw truly beautiful women without making them anatomical impossibilities, and I love that about his work."
