Satuday, December 27, 2003IAN MCKELLEN TALKS X-MEN 3Ian McKellen, appearing on NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien on Friday, said he is optimistic about returning as Magneto in a third X-Men movie. "Well, I certainly hope so," McKellen said. "I saw X-Men 2 the other day; they sent me the DVD. I hadn't seen it." "You hadn't seen it? Really?" O'Brien said. "Well, I didn't think it was going to be much good, but I was wrong," McKellen said. "It was terrific. "I sent an e-mail to Bryan Singer, the director, and said it was great and was there going to be a third movie. And he said he thought there might be and could I get him a ticket to the opening Lord of the Rings. So I got him six tickets, so I guess I'm going to be in X-Men 3 when it happens." McKellen, 64, said he's amazed at his career. "Isn't it lovely to be happening at this time in life?" he said.
