ELEKTRA MOVIE UPDATE

Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios told The Continuum that 20the Century Fox's Elektra movie is targeted to shoot during Jennifer Garner's hiatus from Alias at the beginning of the summer.

"We've had a number of great writers come in and work on it and we're talking to directors," Feige said of the spin-off film from last year's Daredevil.

Feige talked a little about the type of villains Elektra might be facing.

"She doesn't have the sort of spectacular, over-the-top, costumed, made-up mutated villains," he said. "She has what we believe to be very scary, very sleek, very organized and very deadly adversaries.

"The tone of the film will be fun and adventurous, but the villains always fit their heroes. And Elektra doesn't wear a mask or hide her face. It will be unique villans that I think people will recognize and be very excited to see."

Feige said that, similar to most second films featuring Marvel characters, Elektra's costume will probably be tweaked from the one she wore in Daredevil.

Mark Steven Johnson, who wrote and directed Daredevil, and his partner, Gary Foster, who produced Daredevil, will be producers on Elektra. Johnson and Foster are also working on the Ghost Rider film.

Look for more news, including an update on the Daredevil franchise, from The Continuum's visit to Marvel Studios this week and next.

UNIQUE OPTIONED BY TOUCHSTONE PICTURES

Touchstone Pictures has optioned the film rights for Unique, an upcoming graphic novel from Platinum Studios.

David Goyer, who is the writer/director of Blade: Trinity and writer of the upcoming Batman film, will direct Unique. David Heyman will produce through his Heyday Films, while Platinum's Scott Mitchell Rosenberg will serve as executive producer.

Michael Cooney is writing the script.

Rosenberg told The Continuum that the Unique comic will come out next year. It is written by Dean Motter, with art by Italy's Stefano Cardoselli.

Here's how the project is described:

"Unique centers on Jon Geoffries, a man who discovers the Earth has a twin, a parallel world in another dimension. The worlds are closely linked, explaining such phenomena as deja vu and love at first sight, with people having counterparts on both Earths. However, a few are born 'unique,' with no doppelgangers, and can travel between worlds. Geoffries is one such person and soon finds himself a target of enemies who want to exploit his connection."

BRIEFLY

  • The new Catwoman movie site is beginning to launch. The current placeholder shows a logo from the film.

  • Oni Press will release a Three Strikes trade paperback, collecting the mini-series written by Nunzio DeFelippis and Christina Weir and illustrated by Brian Hurtt, on March 3. The 144-page book wil lcost $14.95.

The book tells the tale of college student Rey Quintana and bail enforcement agent Noah Conway as they're set on a collision course that will change both their lives forever. Utilizing a distinctive split narrative style, Three Strikes examines the difference between law and justice through two very different eyes in the aftermath of a single lapse of judgment.

"Some people excel at writing angry," editor James Lucas Jones said. "Greg Rucka is probably the king of this in comics. Exposing social injustices just gets his creative juices flowing. With Three Strikes, Nunzio and Christina prove that Greg doesn't have an exclusive on channeling righteous rage into excellent storytelling. In fact, they just might capture his crown if he's not careful."

"This was an issue that we simply had to address," Weir said. "It was a story that Nunzio and I simply had to tell. There was no choice in the matter. But while we had to get this thing out on paper at any cost, we were lucky enough to again land Brian Hurtt as a collaborator. Brian's passion and artistry brings things to life with the skill of a storyteller twice his age and his experience. It makes an idea we were happy with, a book we're ecstatic about."

Here's how Oni describes the story:

"The laws of physics tell us that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. But Rey Quintana just learned that in life, that doesn't always hold true. Noah Conway already knew that when it comes to people and relationships there¹s often a disproportionate response. Some actions are like knocking over the first domino in a line. You have no choice but to watch the rest fall. Rey used to run with the wrong crowd, but he's got his act together. He's making good grades and has a sweet girlfriend. Noah was a boy in blue until he handed in his badge in a failed attempt to save his marriage. Now he's a lonely bail enforcement agent, desperate to make things right with his teenage daughter. Each man is about to have his world come crashing around his head‹all because of a single lapse in judgment."
