DC COMICS FOR JULY

DC Comics will release its solicitations for July on Monday at 5 p.m. (ET).

Check back here then for a complete rundown, including more than 120 images.

Shown here is the previously released cover to Doom Patrol #1 by John Byrne.

X-MEN MOVIE UPDATE

James Marsden, who played Cyclops in the X-Men movies, said he hopes the third movie can continue the series' momentum.

"The biggest challenge in the first X-Men film was getting everybody introduced and all that exposition involved," Marsden said during his recent appearance at Wizard World Los Angeles, "for all those people who didn't know who the X-Men are and what kind of powers they have.

"Once we got that out of the way, we would have a little more fun and more action. Hopefully, that will snowball into the third and fourth or fifth or however many of these films we do."

"Part of the magic of something like this is having two people with extraordinary powers going at each other," added executive producer Tom DeSanto.

DeSanto and screenwriter Michael Dougherty joined Marsden for a lively question-and-answer session during the convention two weeks ago.

DeSanto said a third X-Men movie is in the very early stages.

"Fox is very hard at work trying to get contracts so we can all get back into the trenches and hopefully get the movie out within the next couple of years."

SPIDER-MAN 2 UPDATE

The premiere of the Spider-Man 2 trailer during NBC's The Apprentice was seen by 21.8 million viewers on Thursday night, according to statistics released by the network on Friday.

The Apprentice, the reality show featuring Donald Trump, scored higher ratings than any other program on television so far this week in the key demographic of adults 18-49.

NBC promoted the Spider-Man 2 trailer vigorously leading up to the episode, including national print ads.

In other Spider-Man 2 news:

* Star Tobey Maguire will appear at Wonder-Con in San Francisco on May 1 in what organizers are calling his only convention appearance this year. Marvel's Avi Arad will also be part of the Spider-Man presentation.

* The trailer displayed Doc Ock's ability to maneuver up and down buildings. "Doc Ock can climb faster than Spider-Man can," Arad said during a recent convention appearance. "He can really become an incredible adversary."

ONI'S FOLLOW ME CLOSELY

Oni Press will publish Follow Me Closely, an original graphic novel by One Plue One artist Daniel Krall, in July.

"Follow Me Closely has a lot of great elements that are just so Daniel," Oni Press editor-in-chief Jamie S. Rich said. "There's the cool fashion, the gorgeous backgrounds, cute girls and disaffected men."

Here's how Oni describes the book:

"The story follows two parallel lives: Julian, the rich kid with nothing to do, and Ben, the private detective looking to track him down. When Julian becomes embroiled with Sadie, an assassin hired to kill him, it takes both of the men down paths that theyıve never expected, leading them to very different choices."

"What impressed me most is that with all these variables, Daniel didn't lose sight of where he was going," Rich said. "You often expect a first time writer to stumble more, but when I finished reading the script, I was so excited that he actually had an ending there. He gives the reader a solid conclusion, which is something I think is often lacking in comics these days."

"The story has evolved organically," Krall said. "Initially, it was a story of Julian searching for more to life and finding it in spades, but as I wrote, his character didn't surprise me nearly as much as Sadie and Ben. So, the narrative I had about one person's journey became about the journey of three people, and it ended up much richer than expected."

Follow Me Closely Vol. 1 will be 104 pages, arriving in stores on July 21 with a $9.95 cover price.
