IDW'S SINGULARITY 7

Artist Ben Templesmith has established himself as a rising star of comic art with projects like 30 Days Of Night and Silent Hill, but in July his fans will get their first taste of his writing abilities with the new IDW Publishing series Singularity 7.

Here's how IDW describes the book:

"Singularity 7 is an incredible epic that tells the story of seven very special individuals that are the living keys to save a scorched Earth from total ruin. When a nanotechnological plague threatens the world, only these few holdouts can fight back...but if they don't act fast, there wonąt be anything left to fight for."

"I've always had a fascination with nanotechnology and really wanted to play around with the broad concepts," Templesmith said. "I'm by no means dealing with hard science, but the possibilities with it really are endless. Apart from anything else, I wanted to use it as a device which would allow me to draw some interesting stuff and still have it all make sense. Plus, it really lets me have a go at some interesting storytelling aspects I've wanted to play around with, which you can only do when you're both writer and artist."

"Fans who only know Ben as an artist will be very pleasantly surprised by his writing skills," said Kris Oprisko, IDW vice president and series editor. "He's crafted a hyper-modern, faced-paced epic that is rooted in sci-fi but speaks to the question of what being human really means."

Singularity 7 will be a 32-page, full-color comic book with a retail price of $3.99

BRIEFLY

  • DC Comics has provided The Continuum with a first look at the alternate covers to Superman/Batman #10 by Jim Lee and Scott Williams and Superman #205 by Michael Turner and Peter Steigerwald. Click on the thumbnails for larger images.

  • Action Comics penciller Ivan Reis has signed a two-year exclusive agreement with DC Comics.

"I almost flipped when DC approached me about the exclusive contract," Reis said. "To me that's real proof of faith in my work. Now I have more time and tranquility to pencil a page, and the chance to go wild with so many DC characters -- characters I grew up with!˛

  • Devil's Due Publishing announced that Dragonlance:The Legend of Huma #3 and Hedge Knight Collected, which combines #1-3 of the series, have completely sold out at the distributor level.

"In anticipation of the demand we actually overprinted Dragonlance by 30 percent, on top of an overship, and Hedge Knight by nearly 50 percent, and still can't keep enough on hand to fill the demand," said Josh Blaylock, president of Devil's Due Publishing. "We've seen amazing backlist movement on these products, which I believe confirms how many non-comic book readers are trickling in to check them out, and how many new readers are catching on to how good they are."

  • Komikwerks' Patrick Coyle has retracted the company's press release earlier this week saying that The World of Quest was optioned by Warner Bros. Animation.

  • Coming Thursday: DC news -- and much more!!!
