STEVE NILES TALKS MOVIES

Steve Niles talks to fans at IDW Publishing's booth at WonderCon.

Steve Niles, creator of 30 Days of Night, told The Continuum that Stuart Beattie, a writer of Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, has been brought aboard to do a rewrite on his screenplay for a film.

30 Days of Night is set up at Sony.

"I'm really happy," Niles said about Beattie's involvement, "because this means they're taking it seriously."

Sam Raimi is producing 30 Days of Night and will turn his attention to it upon the completion of Spider-Man 2. Niles said he doubts Raimi will direct the film, too.

30 Days of Night is one of four movies based on Niles work that are in development. "The entertainment industry is so receptive to comics, especially horror," Niles said during last weekend's WonderCon in San Francisco.

Niles is writing the screenplay for Criminal Macabre, which is set up at MGM, and features monster hunter Cal MacDonald.

"They look at it as a franchise," Niles said. "He's the anti-James Bond."

Niles said he will turn in a second draft in about a week.

Niles said he could see Johnny Depp in the title role, and Vince Vaughan and Edward Norton have been mention. "Cal really looked pretty good about 10 years ago, but he's had the crap kicked out of him since then," Niles said.

Niles has Wake The Dead and his version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde set up at Dimension.

Mike Dougherty, a writer on X2, is writing the screenplay for Wake The Dead, and Niles is serving as producer.

Niles said his twist on the Hyde story is that it involves two brothers working for a pharmaceutical company and neither brother knows which one is becoming the monster.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED UPDATE

When the third season of Justice League debuts in August on Cartoon Network, now as Justice League Unlimited, it will have a new opening title sequence.

Producer Bruce Timm told The Continuum that it is part of the rebranding of the show for the new season.

"It's going to be quite radically different than the Season 1 and 2 opening titles," Timm told The Continuum. "It's kind of like, 'Heads up, this is something different."

Timm said that he is currently working on the new sequence.

Warner Bros. Animation will have a panel at Comic-Con International this summer, where fans should get a first look at Justice League Unlimited.

HALLE BERRY TALKS CATWOMAN

Halle Berry tells Entertainment Tonight that she is happy with the new costume she is wearing in the upcoming Catwoman movie.

"It's so different from the other ones," Berry said. "Catwoman has been done by some great actresses, so I thought, 'If we're going to do a whole movie about it, what can we make new about it?'

"So the costume was the first area that we thought, let's make it 2004. Let's make it edgy, a little more sexy and more reflective of our times now. So I love that it's not just a plain catsuit."

Asked if the suit was hard to get into, Berry said, "Nope. It's all leather and the top is so bare, it's easy."

Berry said she enjoyed working with co-star Sharon Stone.

"She's a balls-to-the-walls kind of girl," Berry said. "She's going to be great in this. We're going to have some real good catfights."

CHUCK DIXON WESTERN AT MOONSTONE

In the first of what Moonstone Books said will be a series of creator/project announcements, the published has signed writer Chuck Dixon and artist Enriques Villagran for a Wyatt Earp Dodge City series.

Here's how Moonstone describes the title:

"The most feared and famous law man of the West returns!

"Wyatt Earp was the kind of man who didn't shoot a lot of bad guys, although he did do SOME of that. He could just walk into a firefight and brazenly intimidate his opponent into surrendering! He seemed to have a certain invulernability in that kind of thing.

"He was a fast draw, although not the fastest, but he did have a different kind of speed.

"He had the fastest hands in the West! He could grab the gun right out of your hand before you let off a single round!

"He was a man of the law, and the strict abiding of it!"

The black-and-white book will follow Wyatt's pre-Tombstone days, and include a cast of surprising characters.
