JUSTICE LEAGUE ANIMATED UPDATE

Cartoon Network announced Friday morning that it will be airing the Justice League: Starcrossed movie earlier than expected.

The network has revised its May schedule and will air the three-part episode on Saturday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m.

The episode concludes the second season of Justice League and leads into the third season, renamed Justice League Unlimited.

As part of the Warner Bros. Animation panel last weekend at WonderCon in San Francisco, producer Bruce Timm previewed the first part of "Starcrossed." The DVD version, at least, will contain a special opening title sequence, featuring the creators' and cast members' names.

The episode was written by Rich Fogel, Dwayne McDuffie and John Ridley, from a story by Fogel. It was directed by Butch Lukic and Dan Riba.

Justice League: Starcrossed will be released on DVD on July 13.

SPIDER-MAN 2 UPDATE

Columbia Pictures and Major League Baseball Properties have agreed to remove the Spider-Man 2 logo from the in-field bases that will be used during Spider-Man 2 Weekend June 11-13.

The move came a day after the announcement for the promotion, which will continue without the logos on the bases. Baseball fans rejected the idea; in a Detroit News poll, 69 percent were not in favor of logos on the bases.

"We don't want to do anything that takes away from a fan's enjoyment of the game," said Geoffrey Ammer, President of Worldwide Marketing for the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group. "While we initially asked for the bases to be included in the MLB promotional package, they are only one element of a much larger family event with Major League Baseball. Spider-Man 2" weekend will be a very exciting, fun and unique promotion and we want to make it a great weekend for baseball fans everywhere."

"As stated when this partnership was announced, we think this is a terrific promotion for Major League Baseball and Columbia Pictures and a great opportunity to reach out to children and families," said Bob DuPuy, President and Chief Operating Officer, Major League Baseball. "The bases were an extremely small part of this program; however, we understand that a segment of our fans was uncomfortable with this particular component and we do not want to detract from the fan's experience in any way.

"We are pleased to be moving ahead with all other elements of this groundbreaking marketing partnership and will continue to pursue new and innovative ways to market the game and engage baseball fans around the globe."

Spider-Man 2 Weekend will take place at 15 Major League parks the weekend of June 11-13.

BRIEFLY

  • Oni Press will release Scott Pilgrim, Volume 1: Scott Pilgrm's Precious Little Life, by Bryan Lee O'Malley, on July 28. The 160-page, black-and-white book will cost $11.95.

Here's how Oni describes the book:

"Scott Pilgrim follows the title character through Toronto and the subspace freeway in his own head as he practices with his rock band, dates a high school girl, goes to parties, and tries to woo the literal girl of his dreams. Along the way he gets a helping hand from the other dudes in the band, his rockstar sister, and his roommate Wallace, a veritable encyclopedia of obscure facts and videogame special moves. Standing in the middle of his road to bliss are seven people each with a special relationship to his ideal woman and a fantastic power and/or fighting style. While the new series might seem far off from the subdued and touching emotion of his first book, Scott Pilgrim isnıt so much a departure for OıMalley as it is a showcase for another side of this multifaceted creator.

"Scott Pilgrim's just kind of fallen through life and he's enjoying the breeze. He doesn't have a job. He doesnıt go to school. He plays bass (badly) in the band Sex Bob-omb, plays videogames, and cooks. He gets by with odd jobs here and there to pay the bills. He shares a studio apartment with the fabulous Wallace Wells (don't call him 'Wally') and is dating Knives Chau, the model Catholic high school girl. Life for Scott is, for lack of a better word, simple. Ramona V. Flowers spends her time skating through subspace making deliveries for Amazon-dot-C-A. The company's best courier, Ramona is responsible for hand-delivering books, CDs, and movies to every Amazon customer in Toronto. A U.S. citizen, she may or may not have an ex-boyfriend named Gideon Graves who may or may not be seven feet tall and may or may not have the means to nuke the western seaboard. Ramona's existence is, in a word, complex. Can these two crazy kids find happiness or is Scott just in for a new life of broken bones and smashed guitars at the hands of Ramona's obsessive ex-beaus?"
