MARVEL COMICS FOR AUGUST

WIZARD WORLD PHILADELPHIA: X-MEN PANEL

New series for Gambit and Nightcrawler, the return of What If? and an October start for Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. on Wolverine were announced Friday at the X-Men: Reload panel at Wizard World Philadelphia.

WIZARD WORLD PHILADELPHIA: TOP COW PANEL

Ron Marz is the new writer of Witchblade, Top Cow announced Friday at Wizard World Philadelphia.

Marz takes over with Witchblade #80, which arrives in October. The new artist on the book will be Michael Choi.

In other Top Cow announcements on Friday: is proud to announce the launch of Tony Daniel's newest property, Humankind! A preview of #1 and the cover of #2 will be at the Top Cow booth during the weekend for perusal, preview artwork will start showing up on the Top Cow website and other news sites soon.

Tony Daniel's new property, Humankind #1, will launch in August with regular covers by Daniel, Greg Land, and Marc Silvestri. Retailers can order each cover separately. The book will officially launch at Wizard World Chicago with a special edition of #1.

August also brings a two-part part Witchblade arc written by Ian Edgington and drawn by Daniel. Witchblade #78 will have covers by Greg Land and Daniel, and retailers will be able to order them separately.

A new Magdalena/Vampirella crossover is scheduled for August. The books is written by Robert Kirkman and drawn by Franci Manapul.

* Myth Warriors ships in September. The 128-page graphic novel will be written by Robert Place and drawn by what Top Cow calls "a new talent from the Phillipines."

* A three-issue Tomb Raider arc drawn by Eric Basaldua starts in September. According to Top Cow, the arc will have "lasting ramifications."

* In November, David Lapham will start a four-part arc of the Darkness with #17.

* On tap for late 2004 are a Pitt/Darkness special by Dale Keown and a new Battle of the Planets: Princess miniseries written by David Wohl.

THE SIMPSONS UPDATE

Fox has released a promotional image from "Fraudcast News," the season finale of The Simpsos airing at 8 p.m. (ET) on Sunday.

Here's how Fox describes the episode:

"After Mr. Burns is erroneously reported as dead, the Springfield newspapers write scathing articles about him. In order to put an end to his negative public image, he buys all the media outlets in an effort to brainwash the citizens of Springfield. Lisa Simpson decides to start her own paper, 'The Red Dress Press,; and writes an article about Mr. Burns; manipulation. Furious, Mr. Burns attempts to squash Lisa's paper but she refuses to go quietly.

In other Simpsons news, Fox on Thursday announced that the new season of the series, the 16th, will debut in November.

  • HBO2 will air HBO First Look: Spider-Man 2 four times in July: Monday, July 5 at 12:45 p.m.; Thursday, July 8 at 2 p.m.; Friday, July 9 at 11:40 p.m. and Thursday, July 15 at 6:45 a.m.

  • Upcoming episodes of Mutant X include "Possibilities" the week of May 24, "Conspiracy Theory" the week of May 31, "Art of Attracton" the week of June 7 and "A Normal Life" on June 14.

  • The third printing of Dark Horse's Conan #1 will reach stores on June 2, sporting a new cover by artist Cary Nord. All back orders on the series as well as future orders for #1 will be filled with the Nord cover.

  • ADV Films announced a July 27 street date for the DVD release of Sonic Soldier Borgman: Last Battle and Lover's Rain, where two worlds collide in two thrilling adventures. This anime was created by Michitaka Kikuchi.

  • The Anime Network announced that it has acquired the exclusive right to broadcast all 85 episodes of Harmony Goldıs classic Robotech, the anime series that introduced generations of Americans to anime.

  • Smallville will be preempted by The WB on Wednesday.
