LEONARDO MANCO EXCLUSIVE TO DCArtist Leonardo Manco, whose credits include Hellbalzer, Doom, and Apache Skies, has signed a two-year exclusive agreement with DC Comics. Manco, who contributes 12 pages of art to Hellblazer #200, will become the series' regular artist with issue #201. He is also the illustrator of the upcoming original Vertigo graphic novel Hellblazer: All His Engines, written by Mike Carey. "Above everything, I am very happy to be working on Hellblazer," Manco said. "It is a dream come true, because John Constantine is one of Vertigo's most mysterious characters. Working with Mike Carey is an honor for me, because he understands Constantine perfectly, which is very inspiring. Will Dennis is an excellent editor who gives me freedom to create. I was not expecting this exclusive contract, and I am going to respond with my best work ever, to meet the expectations of everyone at Vertigo, and the fans' as well." "We're thrilled that Leo has agreed to an exclusive with DC -- and found a home at Vertigo -- because stylistically he is a perfect fit for us," said Editor Will Dennis. "His art has a staggering, visceral quality and is exploding with energy. On top of that he is a consummate professional and has a contagious enthusiasm that any editor loves to see."
JOHNNY DC BRANDS ALL-AGES TITLESThis July, DC Comics' mascot Johnny DC makes his first comic-book appearance in years on the cover of the Free Comic Book Day edition of Teen Titans Go! #1. The issue marks the start of a comeback for the character, who will appear on DC's all-ages titles beginning in September. The new version of the character has been designed by Rian Hughes. "We're working hard to make comics that are fun for new and younger readers," said Dan DiDio, DC's VP -- Editorial. "We are introducing the new Johnny DC as the mascot of the kids' line to host the newly reinstated letters pages that encourage kids to write in and interact with our characters." "Iım a huge fan of Rian's work, and he's really outdone himself with this design," says Mark Chiarello, DC's Editorial Art Director. "The new Johnny DC has a bright, distinctive look that will really stand out in the stores."
