SPIDER-MAN 2 UPDATE

Spider-Man 2 smashed its way through the holiday weekend, setting several box-office records.

According to Reuters, Sony Pictures is estimatng the film will pull in an $180.1 million in its first six days after an $88.3 million take over the weekend.

That trounced the previous six-day opening of $146.9, set last year by The Matrix Reloaded.

"I think our hope was to go into the heart of the summer and grab the biggest six days possible. That's pretty much what happened," said Jeff Blake, vice chairman of Sony.

Spider-Man 2's $152.6 million in its first five days beat the $129 million mark of Shrek 2 and its Friday-Monday take of $115.8 million beat Shrek 2's $95.6 for the best four-day holiday gross.
