THE BATMAN UPDATE

The Batman animated series will be part of Kids' WB!'s new season launch on Saturday, Sept. 11, a network representative has confirmed for The Continuum.

The show's time period and debut episode have not been announced yet, according to the network.

The Batman was part of the Warner Bros. Animation presentation at Comic-Con International last weekend.

Sam Register of Cartoon Network, which is also airing the series, acknowledged Bruce Timm's work on the 1990s Batman series, as well as its influence on the network's shows today.

"When we did this Batman, I said, 'If we can be half as good as the original...' and I think we're three quarters there. I think it's pretty good," Register said. "It's very new. It's not like the other stuff. It's different."

An episode with Man-Bat was screened, and then producers Duane Capizzi and Michael Goghen briefly answered questions.

In other The Batman news:

* The Cluemaster episode involves a former game show contestant who kidnaps the other contestants he lost to and stages his own game-show studio in his basement.

* Clips from The Batman were shown at both the Mattel and DC Comics booths at Comic-Con. Click on the thumbnails for larger images and look for more on The Batman soon here in The Continuum.

MARVEL MOVIES ROUNDUP

Marvel Studios' Avi Arad said that the Iron Man movie is in "aggressive development" at New Line Cinema.

"We're dealing with casting issues and directing issues," Arad said during Marvel's second quarter conference call on Thursday.

The film was originally targeted for a November 2005 release, but might be pushed back to summer 2006.

"The November 2005 date is still attainable," Arad said. "But it's a fluid situaton. We should know more in 6-8 weeks."

Marvel also announced The Man-Thing movie from Lion's Gate won't be released until next year.

"That's probably a good thing," Arad said, nothing the movie is "in the can."

"We'll discuss in the next few weeks where we are going with it."

Arad attended last weekend's Comic-Con International in San Diego, where he appeared on a Fantastic Four panel with director Tim Story, fellow producer Ralph Winter and actors Michael Chiklis, Ioan Gruffudd and Jessica Alba.

"We got the reactions we were anticipating and hoping for for our cast," Arad said, noting physical production starts in two weeks for the July 1, 2005 release.

A rundown of other Marvel projects:

* Arad said Spider-Man 2 is approaching $600 million worldwide and has yet to open in several international markets. "We are very, very pleased," he said.

* Elektra finished principal photography on Friday. Daredevil star Ben Affleck reportedly filmed a cameo.

* Luke Cage, directed by John Singleton, remains a targeted 2005 release from Sony/Columbia.

* The Avengers animated DVD From Lion's Gate is targeted for first quarter 2006.

* X-Men 3 still is targeted for a May 3, 2006 release.

* Arad said a director is in negotiations for Namor, a summer 2006 targeted release from Universal Pictures. He didn't confirm reports that the director is Chris Columbus.

* Ghost Rider, written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson, is in pre-production and on targeted for a summer 2006 release from Sony.

* Arad said that The Punisher has generated more than $50 million worldwide and plans for a sequel continue.

*Development continues on The Hulk 2 at Universal, Spider-Man 3 at Sony, Doctor Strange at Dimension, Deathlok at Paramount, Silver Surfer at Fox and Black Widow and Iron Fist at Lion's Gate.

G.I. JOE: MASTER AND APPRENTICE NEW PRINTING

Devil's Due Publishing has announce that a third printing of G.I. Joe: Master and Apprentice #1 is currently in production.

The new cover will feature the "Arashikage" symbol - the trademark brand of the G.I.Joe comic's most notorious ninja clan.

Based upon the success of this miniseries, Devil's Due already has plans for a sequel, focusing on Storm Shadow, one of the most popular characters in G.I.Joe lore. Creative teams are still being assigned, but, according to Devil's Due, it is "very likely" that writer Brandon Jerwa will return to the series.

G.I.Joe: Master and Apprentice debuted in May and chronicles the origin of Snake-Eyes' apprentice, Kamakura. Issue #1 sold out immediately, followed by a sell-out second printing. Originally slated as a three-part mini-series, reader response allowed for an extension to four issues.

Master and Apprentice #3 is currently at the printers, while copies of issue #2 are still available.

In other Devil's Due news, UDON's Capcom Summer Special 2004, published by Devil's Due Publishing, sold out at Comic-Con International. UDON will have a second printing of the book at Wizard World Chicago on Aug. 13-15, with a new Darkstalkers-themed cover by Arnold Tsang.
