SIN CITY MOVIE UPDATE

Frank Miller's Sin City, the live-action movie based on Miller's comic and from Dimension Films, caused quite a splash at the recent Comic-Con International in San Diego.

Posters of stars Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King and Mickey Rourke were the objects of cameras throughout the show at the Dark Horse booth, but the biggest stir came during the Sin City panel, when co-director Robert Rodriguez's 17-minute presentation with clips from the film showed exactly how faithful it would be to the source material.

"I saw the clip for the first time and I got goosebumps," said Alba, who plays Nancy and was a guest at the panel. "I can't believe it."

Rodriguez and Miller also welcomed King (Goldie) and Dawson (Gail) to the panel, where they discussed the film and answered questions from the audience.

LADY DEATH MOVIE UPDATE

Lady Death creator Brian Pulido said that Andy Orjuela, producer/director, of ADV Films' Lady Death animated movie, understood the character.

"From the beginning, Andy got it," Pulido said. "I don't know what your perspective is, but I've never seen anything like Lady Death in live-action or anime. Sure, you see these girl-power films, but nothing like Lady Death. Lady Death is its own thing, and Andy got that. I feel good and confident that he's held the torch."

"We were like two creative souls kind of completing each other's thoughts," Orjuela said. "It was really great becuase I really understood where Brian held Lady Death. As a creator, you have to respect that."

The film's release on Oct. 5 marks the end of a four-year odyssey for both Orjuela and Pulido.

"Two things we fought for," Pulido said. "The first thing is we wanted the movie to be longer than it originally was supposed to be, and we got that. And the other thing that we both really wanted is that we wanted it to be harsh. We wanted it to be tough. We wanted it to be brutal."

Orjuela agreed that Lady Death had to be mature in its approach.

"There's no censoring the subject matter," he said. "You're talking about 95 percent of the movie talking place in hell, and you don't want to soft-sell hell. Some people may argue a few scenes went over the top, but I can't tell, really."
