VOICE OF LADY DEATH

The original Lady Death was the ultimate Lady Death.

Christine Auten, who portrays Brian Pulido's signature character in ADV Film's upcoming Lady Death animated series, first encountered the character by working on the scratch track of all the female parts early in the film's development.

"When we first did the scratch track, it was really interesting experience," Auten said. "Normally, you do the voices by yourself. But when we did the scratch track, five people were circled around the microphones. It was really an interesting experience, taking the script and living it from beginning to end."

Two years later, Auten then auditioned for the role, along with some 40 other actresses.

"When I came back and auditioned it, it was amazing to see how it had grown and visit it again," Auten said. "I really, really loved the character and the part and I was pretty confident."

"She had an advance copy of the script and she came back with her script in tote, and she was ready," director/producer Andy Orjuela said.

By then, Auten had already drawn Orjuela's interest with her initial effort.

"We were kind of playing with it and listening to it, and I'm like, 'This is really good,'" he said. "I didn't have to say anything. It was like she really knew the character."

Orjuela said that Auten's range helped win the part.

"You've got Hope, and you've got Lady Death. You've got a little 17-year-old innocent woman, and you've got Lady Death," he said. "You've got to have an actress who can go from 17 to 27 in two hours time frame and she was amazing. She was the only one who could pull that off."

The Lady Death DVD will be in stores on Oct. 5.

PATRICK OLLIFFE ON SPIDER-GIRL

Patrick Olliffe told The Continuum he is inking his own pencils for a guest-stint on an upcoming issue of Spider-Girl.

"It's a self-contained issue. The Dragon King character makes a return," Olliffe said during the recent Comic-Con International. "It's been a while since I was the regular artist and it's nice to touch base."

In addition to Spider-Girl, Olliffe has done licensing work for Marvel, handled part of the Spider-Man 2 adaptation and drew a 12-page Atom story for DC Comics.

The Atom story will appear in DC Comics Presents: Atom #1, which is due in stores next week. The story, part of the tribute to editor Julius Schwartz, is written by Dave Gibbons and has inks by Livesay.

"That was fun," Olliffe said. "I always loved the look for that character. It was a neat project to be a part of."

Here's how the book is described:

"Ben Avery, fresh on the heels of the Hedge Knight comic book series takes Dorothy and Alice (now college students) on an adventure, back into the realms of their childhood. Dorothy has forgotten about the time she spent in Oz. Alice attributes Wonderland to daydreaming. But what neither of them realizes is that Oz and Wonderland, and the creatures that inhabit those lands, are real. Somehow, creatures from OZ and Wonderland are finding there way into our world. The Oz/Wonderland Chronicles is set in modern-day Chicago, it will be a blend of the three worlds as Dorothy and Alice set out to find the cause of the disruption.

"The Oz Wonderland Chronicle Preview sets up the story by introducing you to characters you might not be familiar with, and reintroducing you to the characters you may already know."
