KRYPTO ANIMATED UPDATE

Krypto, the new animated series featuring the dog from Superman, is the first series as part of a new weekday morning franchise of original and acquired television targeted for preschool children to premiere on Cartoon Network in spring 2005.

Still to be officially named, this joint venture between Warner Bros. Television Group and Cartoon Network will mark both companies' first major production foray into the preschool market and will differentiate from other media properties by its primary emphasis on developing, nurturing and valuing a child's sense of humor.

Here's how the network describes Krypto:

"Krypto follows the adventures of Superman's faithful canine companion when he lands in Metropolis after being jettisoned as a test-pilot puppy aboard a rocket ship made by Superman's father, Jor-El. He immediately becomes friends with a lonely boy named Kevin Whitney. Armed with a wide array of superpowers, Krypto, along with Kevin, fight forces of evil that threaten the well-being of both people and animals in Metropolis."

Sam Vincent is providing Krypto's voice, and Alberto Ghisi is providing Kevin's voice.

"On weekday mornings, we know that younger children comprise the majority of our viewers when older siblings head off to school," said Alice Cahn, Cartoon Network Vice President of Development and Programming. "The significant resources and ingenuity of Warner Bros. Animation provides us a powerful partner to help build this new franchise into a joyful, meaningful experience for these young viewers."

All of the series will be developed in collaboration with a Child Development Advisory Board and from a curriculum framework based on the importance of humor to children's healthy development. More details about the new franchise, including further programming announcements, will be released in coming weeks.

AVATAR PRESS LAUNCHES LADY DEATH

Avatar Press has announced that its first Lady Death release, Brian Pulido's Lady Death: Dead Rising, will debut at Wizard World Chicago on Friday-Sunday.

A number of Avatar Press creators will also be on hand at the Avatar booth at the show, including Brian Pulido, Jacen Burrows, Clint Hilinski, Greg Waller, Matt Martin and Sean Shaw.

Lady Death: Dead Rising is a preview of the plans Pulido and Avatar have coming up for the character.

"We will launch our new monthly Medieval Lady Death picking up after Lady Death: A Medieval Tale #12," Pulido said. "While we will begin with a new series, Medieval Lady Death #1, I will be careful to make this a good jumping on point for new readers. Our second Lady Death series will be the 'classic' Heaven & Hell/Bitch Goddess Lady Death. We had to bring her back because fans demanded her back. True to the Chaos! style I established, her adventures will be in a series of limited series."

Lady Death: Dead Rising will take a look at both titles with art from Romano Molenaar, Di Amorim, Matt Martin, Clint Hilinski, and Juan Jose Ryp, and covers by Ryp, Martin and Sean Shaw.
