WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO: BATMAN BEGINS

Warner Bros., ever protective of a prized franchise, opened the box a little bit on Saturday at Wizard World Chicago.

At a panel originally devoted to the Green Lantern comics relaunch but broadened to include Batman Begins, the studio took advantage of the fact Batman Begins was filming nearby to trot out director Chris Nolan, producer Emma Thomas and writer David Goyer.

But there's more. The 300 or so attendees, who needed wristbands to enter the panel and were heavily scrutinized by security forces, were treated to a four-minute montage of clips from the film.

It wasn't a trailer, and Nolan said the footage won't be seen in this fashion again. It seemed to strike the right chords with crowd.

Highlights of the footage include:

* A look at the genesis of Batman's costume.

* Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne and Morgan Freeman's Lucius Fox driving a khaki/camouflage-colored version of the prototype vehicle that will become the Batmobile. Wayne grins and asks, "Does it come in back?"

* Bruce's fighting training.

* A brief shot of the Scarecrow in his mask.

* Batman, on fire, falling from three stories or so in the air.

* A thug saying, "Where are you?" and the camera pulls away to show an upside-down Batman behind him, saying "Here."

Earlier in the day Goyer appeared at DC Universe panel and fielded several questions about the film. For a transcription of that, with more images, CLICK HERE.
