MARK MILLAR TALKS WOLVERINE

Wolverine #20 marks the debut of the new creative team of writer Mark Millar and artist John Romita Jr. It also marks the returns of a costumed Wolverine interacting more in the Marvel Universe.

"We were talking the other day about the feeling of a shared universe and we said we going to start integrating titles. We thought if Wolverine's killing everybody in my book and he's bad ass and Elektra's kicking his ass and S.H.I.E.L.D's flying in and everything, and then he's like, 'Hey, how you doin'?' in these other books," Millar said.

"So we're doing it we're going to tie it in with a few other Marvel titles. I always wanted to do one of those big crossover events. The first three issues won't tie into other titles but if he kills other characters in other people's titles maybe you'll see the ramifications."

Millar said he wants to "spin some things off this project," perhaps with some lesser-used characters.

The first story arc, "Enemy of The State," will be six issues.

Here's how Marvel describes Wolverine #20:

"The world's deadliest living weapon just fell into the wrong hands. It's Wolverine vs. the Marvel Universe in a blockbuster storyline that will have Logan shredding his way through the X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four and S.H.I.E.L.D. How does Wolverine end up fighting to destroy everything he holds dear? In this issue alone: Nick Fury, Elektra, Kitty Pryde, and a new villain you've got to see to believe!"

MARVEL MOVIES ROUNDUP

David Goyer, writer and director of Blade: Trinity, told The Continuum he hopes to lock picture this week on the film, which is scheduled for a Dec. 10 release from New Line Cinema.

The film has gone through three rounds of testing, and Goyer has been concentrating on its ending. He told The Continuum he is happy with how the final version ends.

New Line has been labeling Blade: Trinity as the last film in the series, although there have been rumblings of either a four Blade movie or a Nightstalkers spin-off. Both Jessica Biel (Abigail Whistler) and Ryan Reynolds (Hannibal King) are signed on for another film.

* Astonishing X-Men writer Joss Whedon was asked at last weekend's Wizard World Chicago if he has been in talks to direct the third X-Men movie.

"There hasn't been anything official happening, but I did read on the Internet somebody wanted me to," Whedon joked. "And that's where the negotiations are. I'm negotiating with the Internet and it's going very well.

"Right now, it's a fantasy. But it's my fantasy."

* The Ultimates and Wolverine writer Mark Millar said he had been talking to Goyer about a possible Deadpool movie, but that project has been backburnered.

SMALLVILLE UPDATE

Jeph Loeb, consulting producer on The WB's Smallville, said the show's creators are interested in bringing back Michael McKean as Perry White for another episode.

"Michael is currently on Broadway doing Hairspary and probably is not going to be available for a while, but we would absolutely love to have Perry come back on the show, too," Loeb said during a DC panel at Wizard World Chicago.

"And some other interesting folks, too."

In other Smallville news:

* Titan Books has announced a September release for the first in a series of Smallville companion books, the first of which focuses on Season 1.

The book's author is Paul Simpson, with a foreword by executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar.

The Season 2 Companion will be released in early 2005, with Seasons 3 and 4 to follow before the end of the year.
