MARGOT KIDDER ON SMALLVILLE

Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane in the four Superman movies, will become the third cast member to appear on The WB's Smallville when the show launches its fourth season on Wednesday, Sept. 22.

Kidder will play Bridgette Crosby, emissary to Dr. Swann, played by big-screen Superman, Christopher Reeve. Kidder will appear in the season premiere as well as the season's sixth episode.

The role of Bridgette Crosby will also reunite Kidder with Smallville series star Annette O'Toole (Martha Clark), who had co-starred with Kidder in Superman III, then playing the role of Lana Lang.

The season premiere, "Crusade," will also introduce Smallville's version of Lois Lane, played by Erica Durance.

After making her major motion-picture debut in Norman Jewison's Gaily, Gaily in 1969, Kidder starred opposite Gene Wilder in Quackser Fortune Has a Cousin in the Bronx. She made an impact in a dual role as formerly conjoined twins in Brian De Palma's horror movie Sisters and starred in several other movies in the 1970s, including George Roy Hill's The Great Waldo Pepper, opposite Robert Redford and Susan Sarandon, and The Reincarnation of Peter Proud.

Following the success of Superman: The Movie in 1978, Kidder reprised her role as Lois Lane in Superman II, 1983's Superman III and 1987's Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

Among her numerous other film credits are The Amityville Horror, Harry O: Such Dust As Dreams Are Made Of, Black Christmas, Some Kind of Hero, Never Met Picasso, The Hi-Line, Crime and Punishment and the 2004 thriller The Last Sign, opposite Andie MacDowell and Tim Roth.

CONAN ONE-SHOT

Jimmy Palmiotti and Mark Texiera are teaming up for Conan and the Daughters of Midora, a 48-page one-shot from Dark Horse Comics and the first spin-off issue to complement the monthly series.

Texeira delivers art in issue, which is written and inked by Palmiotti. This is the hard-drinking, bare-knuckled, older Conan in a story set years later than the events in the current ongoing series.

Palmiotti said he was "insanely happy" when offered the chance to write a Conan one-shot.

"Conan and I got history," Palmiotti said. "I grew up with this guy. I understand his motivations and his need to fight for what he wants."

Palmiotti geared the story toward Texeira's storytelling strengths for what he called "a fun and very traditional" story.

"What I wanted to achieve with this tale was something that a die-hard Conan fan could sink their teeth into and at the same time a new reader could appreciate in just the same way," he said. "I wanted to work on a classic tale of kings, beautiful women, wizards and monsters, and at the same time bring some out-of-control barbarian action and adventure to the story. I figured this was my one shot at taking on a character so dear to me and I wanted to include every element that appealed to me and try to create a classic."

Here's how Dark Horse describes the issue:

"A king's favorite daughter is kidnapped by his sorceror advisor, and only Conan can save the girl-with the aid of the second daughter, who the king won't consider as a successor to the throne. Harsh terrain and the wizard's horde of zombie warriors-and other treachery-stand between Conan and the beautiful young heiress."

Conan and the Daughters of Midora will arrive in stores on Oct. 6 and will cost $4.99.
