DC COMICS FOR DECEMBER

DC Comics is releasing its solicitation information for December on Monday at 5 p.m. (ET).

Check back here then for a complete rundown, with cover images.

SMALLVILLE'S AL GOUGH

Lois Lane. The Flash. Mxyzptlk. Margot Kidder.

And that's just in the first seven episodes. Smallville begins its fourth season on Wednesday, Sept. 22, with a renewed sense of fun, new characters and special guest-stars.

The Continuum caught up with executive producer Al Gough on Friday to discuss the recent developments of The WB's top-rated show.

In other Smallville news, The WB has released its description for "Gone," the Wednesday, Sept. 29 episode.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois Lane (Erica Durance) investigate Chloe's (Allison Mack) apparent murder, but are stopped by an army officer, General Sam Lane (guest star Michael Ironside), who turns out to be Lois' father. Lois suspects that Sam knows more about Chloe's death than he will admit, and Clark discovers that Sam has recently been in contact with Lex (Michael Rosembaum). Jason (Jensen Ackles) arrives from Paris and convinces Lana (Kristin Kreuk) to continue their relationship. Suspecting that Chloe is still alive, Lionel (John Glover) sends an assassin with the power to morph his limbs into metallic weapons to keep Chloe from testifying against him."

James Marshall directed the episode, which was written by Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders.

RORSCHACH'S GRAVEDIGGER

The creative team of Christopher Mills and Rick Burchett add a gritty edge to Rorschach Entertainment in November with Gravedigger: The Scavengers.

Here's how Rorschach describes the book:

"Gravedigger: The Scavengers is in the same vein of classic crime caper films of the 1960's and 1970's, the kind inhabited by such familiar tough guys as Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and the 'late, great Lee Marvin,' said Mills. Digger McCrae, the professional crook and 'irredeemable bastard' at the center of this crime piece, has been compared most often to Marvin."

"The character of Digger McCrae is pretty obviously inspired by the great tough guy actors of that period," said Mills. "He is totally focused on his own needs and lusts -- Burchett calls him 'Conan in a suit.'"

Mills, a long-time crime fiction writer and editor, said he began work on Gravedigger because of a lack of hard-boiled crime comics that didn't slip into horror or super-heroic themes.

"I wrote Gravedigger simply because there's not enough material being published in the genre to satisfy me," he said.

Mills said Burchett is "one of the most underrated talents" in comics.

"On Gravedigger, Rick brought a lot of the storytelling, making various changes and improving the pacing," Mills said. "I learned a lot from working with Rick and we're planning on working together soon."
