SMALLVILLE UPDATE
The WB has released the first picture of Margot Kidder from Smallville. Kidder, who played Lois Lane in the Superman movies, is posing with Annette O'Toole, who plays Martha Kent in Smallville and played Lana Lang in the third Superman film. In Smallville, Kidder will play Bridgette Crosby, emissary to Dr. Swann. She will appear in the first and sixth episodes. Click on the thumbnail for a larger image. In other Smallville news: Smallville was one of the shows featured on The WB Insider special, which aired at different times on different affiliates throughout the country. The Smallville set was visited during some scenes involving Clark as a senior quarterback for the high school football team. All the main cast members were interviewed, providing insight as to what to expect in the show's fourth season. Following is a rundown of some of the cast members' comments: Erica Durance on Lois: "What's cool about it is that I get to discover Lois as she discovers herself. As she gets older, I get to discover that, too." Jensen Ackles, who plays Jason Teague: "This is the fourth season, so the show's really got legs right now. It's a bit of a well-oiled machine, so you really have got to plug yourself in and find a niche quick." Ackles on the Jason/Lana relationship: "They have a nice little romance and it all ends at the end of the summer and she comes back to Smallville. And I somehow manage to get back here with her." Tom Welling on Clark: "You're going to see a side of Clark you haven't seen before with maybe some comedy, maybe some flirtation you haven't seen before with Lana." Kristin Kreuk on Lana: "She comes back with a new style, but I think it's a new style that comes out of her being secure in her body." Kreuk on Lana's new look: "Something happens in the first episode that creates a tattoo on her back. It's not something that she goes out and gets. It's actually very interesting and has a lot to do with the mythology of the show that will carry throughout the season." Annette O'Toole, who plays Martha: "We never know really what to expect. It's just as exciting for us when we get the scripts as it for people to see the show." Welling on the Clark/Lois relationship in Smallville: "What I've seen in the past between Clark and Lois is there was already this relationship, already this love from Clark for Lois. What we're doing here, they can't stand each other. They ultimately hate each other. Lana actually has this line where she says, 'That's where the best ones start.'" Welling on Clark's new powers: "I don't know if it's flying. He won't be completely Earth-bound this season." Welling on Clark using his powers -- a little -- as football quarterback: "Jonathan's aware of that, and I don't think he likes it. For me, playing Clark, I think it's important to show that teenage side of Clark." Allison Mack on the apparent fate of her character Chloe: "Fan reaction to my death has been pretty interesting. Walking down the street and having people say things like, 'I'm so sorry you're dead.'" Click on the thumbnails below for larger images and look for more Smallville news soon here in The Continuum.
