SMALLVILLE UPDATE

The WB has released seven images from "Facade," the Wednesday, Oct. 6 episode of Smallville.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"Clark (Tom Welling) faces a surprising new foe in the form of a shy high school girl (guest star Brianna Lynn Brown) who turns to plastic surgery to enhance her looks and boost her popularity. However, things go awry when she discovers that her kryptonite-enhanced beauty causes harm to anyone she kisses -- and she decides her next victim will be Lana (Kristin Kreuk). Meanwhile, Jason (Jensen Ackles) and Lana continue to hide their relationship from Clark."

The episode was written by Holly Herald and directed by David Carlson.

KATIE HOLMES TALKS BATMAN BEGINS

Appearing on NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Katie Holmes talked about the new Batmobile in Batman Begins.

"I'm a very priveleged young girl," Holmes said. "At first I saw the Batmobile move and turn on the lights and everything before I got to ride in it.

"And just the sound of it and seeing it take off so fast, I was like, 'Ohhhhh, I get it, why men watch NASCAR and obsess over cars.'"

Holmes said the Batmobile would always draw attention during shooting.

"It was awesome," Holmes said. "We shot parts of it in Chicago and people would be going down the river on their boats after having some cocktails and would go, 'Is that the Batmobile?'"

In Batman Begins, Holmes plays Rachel Dodson, Bruce Wayne's love interest.

BLACK SAILS FROM ED BRUBAKER, SEAN PHILLIPS

IDW Publishing announced it is working with Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips to publish a creator-owned mini-series, Black Sails.

Black Sails is a three-issue mini-series "of mysterious vampire pirates with an intriguing hook: these men are manning the very ship on which Dracula himself once sailed. In Black Sails, Depression-era coastal towns are terrorized by a mysterious ship that sails only by night, drifting in with the fog, and leaving bloody waters in its wake."

The mini-series is targeted for a spring launch.

"Working with Sean has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my career, and now to be continuing that partnership on work we own, at a company that I feel puts out some of the most beautiful packages on the shelves, is just perfect," Brubaker said. "Black Sails is an idea that just hit me out of the blue, and seemed like the perfect way to start a relationship at IDW, bringing what we do to a genre they've done very well with, and giving it a twist that I've never seen done before. Of course, I immediately sent my idea to Sean, and by way of his acceptance, got back a color rough of his first cover idea."

Chris Ryall, Editor-in-Chief of IDW Publishing, said, "Ed and Sean are among the best creative teams in comics today, and I couldn't be happier that they're bringing a book like Black Sails to IDW. People are really in for a surprise here -- this is unlike anything they've done before."
