FIRST LOOK: ASCEND

Ascend will arrive in stores this month from Image Comics. The book is written by Keith Arem and Scott Cuthbertson, with art by Christopher Shy.

Here's how Image describes the book:

"Ascend tells the dark, intriguing and seductive story of three banished Angels, waging an epic war on Earth. Set in a time of post-apocalyptic heaven, where the battle for human souls will determine the outcome of a war with the underworld. The epic war between good and evil, fought for the control of heaven, is relentless. The war has ravaged the universe, and to sustain their armies, Heaven has 'harvested' the souls of earth to fight in their battle.

"A rogue Angel, Gideon, in an attempt to stem the tide of battle, begins harvesting living human souls for his own legion, a horrific violation of the universe. He and his two sibling angels, Sebastian and Seraphine, are exiled from Heaven for trying to stop the war, and forced to live among mortals.

The three angels soon separate and seek a new path to return them home. Still bound by their Angelic instincts, the Angels find that they are still drawn to humans about to Ascend into the war. Gideon finds he can continue his personal harvest on earth, and with each soul he takes, he becomes more powerful. Longing to become human again, Sebastian forsakes his former existence as an angel, and gives up part of himself to save a mortal- Rebeka.

"Seraphine sees the impending battle between the two brothers, and foresees that her fate is linked to her fallen siblings. As Gideonís powers grow, Sebastian and Seraphine realize they must deny their new life as mortals, and confront their brother, fuelling an epic struggle which threatens to destroy the universe."

Ascend will cost $14.95.

In his kind yet lonely journey, this man of compassion also seeks something else: someone to love, someone willing to return all the kindness he's shown his less-fortunate troupe of oddities. When he finds that someone, his life is complete... until her pregnancy. When she gives birth to the couple's very own oddity, the new father's fury at God and the world for such a betrayal drive him to a state of revenge and hatred that reveals his true inner self -- a self his traveling troupe wreaks its own twisted revenge upon."

FIRST LOOK: BATMAN: JEKYLL & HYDE #1

Batman: Jekyll & Hyde #1 will arrive in stores on April 20 from DC Comics. The issue is written by Paul Jenkins, with art by Jae Lee and a cover by Sean Phillips.

Here's how DC describes the book:

"'...man is not truly one, but truly two.' ‹ R.L. Stevenson, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

"Never has that been better demonstrated than in Batman's conflicted foe Two-Face, the subject of the new 6-issue mini-series. Expressing the dual nature of the villain, the miniseries will feature visuals by two distinct artists: Jae Lee illustrates issues #1-3, while Sean Phillips draws issues #4-6!

Jekyll & Hyde is a story of duality that examines how one man can seemingly harbor two souls, each bent on the other's destruction. But who is more honest: the man who acknowledges his dark side or the man who suppresses it?

"Don't miss this terrifying tale of Two-Face's past and present, as he battles with himself -- and the Batman!"

Batman: Jekyll & Hyde #1 will be 32 pages and will cost $2.99.
