MARVEL COMICS ROUNDUP

Marvel Comics has announced thar Ultimate Iron #1 will have two covers in a 50/50 split, one each by Ultimates artist Bryan Hitch and series artist Andy Kubert. Both covers will feature foil enhancements at no extra cost.

Ultimate Iron Man #1, written by novelist Orsco Scott Card, reaches stores on March 2.

"Let me just say, 'Brace yourselves,'" said editor Nick Lowe. "This story will change the way you look at Ultimate Iron Man and show that there is a lot more to Tony Stark than we see in The Ultimates. Orson and Andy have come through with a unique science fiction vision here that will both shock and thrill.

"Working with Orson has been a dream for me ever since I read Ender's Game. I've been working to get him on a Marvel book since I started at Marvel. After all the pestering he finally agreed to do a book (if just to get me off his back) and it is better than I could have imagined. He is a true storytelling master and the readers are really in for a treat ... and when Andy agreed to work on the book all the pieces just fell into place. This is the best work of his career, hands down. It doesn't get any better than this."

A movie-style poster featuring Kubert's art is being produced for retail sale, a week before issue #1 is released.

In other Marvel news:

* Marc Silvestri is providing a variant cover to Wolverine #26, the start of "Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.," the second story arc by writer Mark Millar.

Wolverine #26, drawn by John Romita Jr., has Wolverine in S.H.I.E.L.D. custody, Hydra celebrating the coronation of a new leader, The Hand picking off the meta-humans one by one and the origin of the Gorgon.

The book goes on sale on March 16.

* X-Men: Phoenix -- Endsong #2 has sold out, according to the publsihing. Like the first issue, Marvel will return for a second printing of #2 with a new variant cover.
