FANTASTIC FOUR MOVIE UPDATE

Michael Chiklis, who plays Ben Grimm/The Thing in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, said that his Thing outfit encased his entire body.

"It's 60 pounds of latex rubber from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet," Chiklis said during an appearance on the syndicated Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday. "There's a zipper on the back, with a flap that comes over it, so it can be glued and it can be seamless. And once you're in it, you're in."

Chiklis, wearing a Fantastic Four T-shirt, said the suit drew quite a reaction from his wife Michelle.

"She nearly fainted when she saw me in it during the first day of the testing because she's a claustrophobe," Chiklis said.

BOOM! STUDIOS LAUNCHING

Former Atomeka Press publisher Ross Richie has announced the formation of Boom! Studios and has already lined up a full slate of creator-owned projects.

Unlike Richie's former company, which largely concentrated on reprints and collections of previously published material, Boom! Studios will provide readers with a mix of new and archival undertakings.

The company's initial roster includes work from Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis (Hero Squared), Howard Chaykin and Don Cameron (Cyberella), Dave Johnson (The Dave Johnson Sketchbook) and a new creator-owned project from writer Mark Waid.

The company's first project will be the next chapter in the story of Hero Squared by Giffen and his Formerly Known As The Justice League collaborator DeMatteis. Following the recently released Hero Squared one-shot from Atomeka Press, the new monthly mini-series will be three issues.

The company expects to release one new title per month, addition to its collected editions.

First ups is a Trencher trade paperback collecting the previous adventures of Giffen's creation. After that, Boom! will release a Cyberella paperback by Chaykin and Cameron, and for the summer, Boom! has plans to release a series of trade paperbacks featuring DeMatteis' collaboration with Glenn Barr and Jon J. Muth, Seekers Into The Mystery.

Details on the Waid project will be announced soon.

"I'm very excited about our ability to launch Boom Studios with such an incredible roster of talent," Richie said. "The main upshot to our diverse offerings, whether it's our new projects or collected editions, will be that they're comics we ourselves would like to read. Couldn't we all do with a few more decisions made that way?"

It's just a perfect fit," said Oni Press publisher, Joe Nozemack. "Adding someone to focus on sales and marketing is something we've really wanted to do for some time now, but it required a certain rare type of person -- Maryanne was exactly who we wanted."
