LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Marvel Comics kicked off the panels at Wizard World L.A. on Friday with its Cup o' Joe panel.
Accompanied by marketing man John Dokes and talent liason/editor C.B. Cebulski, Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada fielded questions and provided details on everything from a new 1602 series to Ultimate Moon Knight.
Following are highlights:
* Quesada said there will be a "huge event" in the Spider-Man books after House of M.
"You'll see a more unified Spider-Man Universe," Quesada said. "We've got a number of cool, classic stories."
Quesada said that Reginald Hudlin's Marvel Knights Spider-Man stories will focus on Peter Parker, J. Michael Straczynski's Amazing Spider-Man stories will focus on "widescreen" adventures and Mark Waid's stories on a yet-to-be named title will be how Spider-Man reacts to begin an Avenger.
* 1602: New World is a six-issue series by Greg Pak and Greg Tocchini that starts in July.
* Wolverine #28 features the return of Northstar.
* Look for Bryan Singer's Ultimate X-Men stories to start in December.
* Quesada said Warren Ellis has a new team book in the works. "It's the next coolest thing," Quesada said. "I just got the first script and it's way out there."
* Frank Cho has another project lined up. "I can tell you this, it's got a girl in it," Quesada said.
* Quesada said Iron Man delays are due to Adi Granov's computer-generated art. Iron Man #3 has been completed, though, and Quesada said "It'll be worth the wait."
* Ultimate Moon Knight will be featured in an arc of Ultimate Spider-Man. An announcement on the Marvel Universe Moon Knight is expected in the next two months.
* Neil Gaiman has a project in the works. Quesada said the project's artist will have fans going "ahhhhhh..."
* Juan Bobillo returns to join Dan Slott on the She-Hulk relaunch.
* Ultimate Extinction is the third mini-series in Warren Ellis' Ultimate crossover and features Ultimate Galactus.
* Ultimate Iron Man, which Quesada said is "selling like crazy," is now going to be five-issue mini-series. "Orson Scott Card wanted to take the story to the next step," Quesada said. "He's going to slow the pace of the story down and get into Tony's childhood."
* The six-issue Ghost Rider series by Garth Ennis and Clayton Crain will come from the Marvel Knights imprint.
* An X-Men/Black Panther crossover will take place in X-Men #175-176 and Black Panther #8-9.
* Vampire by Night will be a back-up featuring in Amazing Fantasy starting in July.
* X-23 will be featured in New X-Men. Quesada called the character, created by Craig Kyle initially for the X-Me: Evolution television series, "incredibly popular."
* John Romita Jr. what Quesada called "an unexpected" project following his work on Wolverine. Quesada wouldn't elaborate, but it's believed to be a new Sentry series with Paul Jenkins.
* Cebulski said that Captain America & Falcon #14 will be the series' final issue, but it could spin into something else.
* The run of Mark Millar and Greg Land starts in Ultimate Fantastic Four #21.
* Ultimate X-Men #61-66 will feature the "Escape of Magneto."
* Cebulski said there will be another What If? event in December. The delayed Wha...Huh? book will be released in August. "It's as it was, no changes," Cebulski said.
* Jenkins reteams with Mark Buckingham on Spectacular Spider-Man #27, the final issue. Quesada said the issue has a Calvin & Hobbes homage with Peter and Uncle Ben. Click on the thumbnails above for two pages from the issue.
* Quesada said there will be more Icon titles beyond Straczynski's Dream Police in June.
