WIZARD WORLD L.A.: DC UNIVERSE PANEL

A new Jonah Hex series was among the announcements at the DC Universe panel at Wizard World L.A. on Saturday.

The book will be written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. Frank Quitely has done the cover for the first issue.

It's totally the Western genre and each issue will have self-contained stories with a beginning, middle and end," Palmiotti said.

WIZARD WORLD L.A.: MARVEL PANEL

Two new Paul Jenkins projects were formally announced at Marvel's panel at Wizard World Los Angeles on Saturday.

As previously reported, Jenkins will team with artist John Romita Jr. on a Sentry series that is targeted for eight issues. Jenkins created Sentry in 2001 and gave his blessing to Brian Michael Bendis' use of the character in New Avengers.

Jenkins' other project is Mythos, a series of prestige format books painted by Paolo Rivera that will tell the origins of Marvel characters.

WIZARD WORLD L.A.: RYAN REYNOLDS

Appearing at Wizard World L.A. on Saturday, Blade: Trinity star Ryan Reynolds said he has his eyes on playing The Flash in a feature film.

The film is set up at Warner Bros. with David Goyer, who wrote and directed Reynolds in Blade: Trinity and wrote Batman Begins.

"We had a meeting last night about it and he's writing it right now," Reynolds said. "If Warner Bros. decides to greenlight it, I will be playing the role."

Reynolds said he would have to get in tip-top shape for the role. "I'm up for the challenge," he said.

Reynolds has also been linked to both a Deadpool movie and a Nightstalkers spin-off in which he would reprise his role of Hannibal King.

He said that he spoke with Marvel's Avi Arad backstage about Deadpool, and that Fox has shown an interest in it.

"I would love to play that role," Reynolds said. "The Merc with a Mouth ... it's like that's the reason I stepped out of my mother, to play that role. So someday. Hopefully."

Reynolds said he is contracted to play Hannibal King again.

"I don't know with that Blade horse...maybe, that's it," he said. "If it's something fans want, it might happen."

Reynolds appeared at the convention with Melissa George to promote his new film, a remake of The Amityville Horror.
