WIZARD WORLD L.A.: MARVEL PANEL

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Two new Paul Jenkins projects were formally announced at Marvel's panel at Wizard World Los Angeles on Saturday.

As previously reported, Jenkins will team with artist John Romita Jr. on a Sentry series that is targeted for eight issues. Jenkins created Sentry in 2001 and gave his blessing to Brian Michael Bendis' use of the character in New Avengers.

Jenkins' other project is Mythos, a series of prestige format books painted by Paolo Rivera that will tell the origins of Marvel characters.

"It's the actual origin of the character paired with the film version in a mix of great reverence to update them," Jenkins said.

Jenkins said plans are for three or four to be released per year, with an eventual collection of all the books.

Jenkins was joined on the panel by editor-in-chief Joe Quesada, editors Axel Alonso, C.B. Cebulski and Tom Brevoort, Young Avengers writer Allan Heinberg and marketing head John Dokes.

In other highlights from the panel:

* The J. Michael Straczynski/Mike McKone run of Fantastic Four stars with #527. Brevoort said he has three scripts in hand and two issues drawn already. Click on the thumbnails above for the cover to FF #528 and a page from #527.

* Dan Slott and artist Andrea DeVito are doing a Thing series spinning out of Fantastic Four in late summer. Brevoort said the book will be ongoing.

* Quesada said House of M will have a profound impact on the Marvel Universe and "will put some genies back in some bottles."

* The Incredible Hulk #83-86 will be a House of M tie-in story, "The Last Refuge," by Peter David and Jorge Lucas. Quesada said the story will have one of the stronger ties to House of M events.

* Quesada said David has an ongoing book spinning out of House of M.

*Iron Man: House of M will start in July. It's a three-issue story by Greg Pak and Pat Lee.

* Brevoort on Spider-Man: House of M, by Mark Waid and Salvador Larroca: "It's a completely different look at Spider-Man. We're turning his world upside down."

* The Waid/Mike Wieringo Spider-Man series will then follow in October.

* Captain America #6 will reveal a killer whom Quesada said will be "a mainstay villain in the Marvel Universe."

* Trevor Hairsine will draw a couple issues of Black Panther.

* Mike Oeming and Scott Kolins are teaming on a six-issue Thor series, featuring the classic version of the character in similar fashion to Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

* Quesada dodged questions about a Ultimate Universe/Marvel Universe crossover.

* Heinberg said that someone dies in Young Avengers #5, the team's lineup is finalized in #6, "you get to know the kids" in #7-8 and a "big arc" starts in #9.

* Talks with the potential next team of Wolverine have taken place. "We also want to make sure the next story makes sense," Alonso said. "It should feel like an outgrowth of what Mark (Millar, current Wolverine writer) has done, and he's a big supporter of the creative team we're talking about."

* Paul Pelletier is the new artist of Exiles, beginning in September.

* Brevoort said that the Marvels: Eye of the Camera mini-series by Kurt Busiek and Jay Anacleto is still in the works. Anacleto is just about done with the second issue, and Brevoort said there isn't a rush to press because of the timeless nature of the story.

* Weapon X: Days of Future Now, by Frank Tieri and Bart Sears, launches in July.

* Alonso said he has been talking to X-23 writers Craig Kyle and Chris Yost about another limited series, or possibly two.

* Brevoort said that Cable/Deadpool will continue for at least another year.

* Photon will appear in New Thunderbolts #9, Brevoort said.

* Alonso said there's no end in sight for Supreme Power. "It's going to be a bigger and more popular book and it will be coming out more regularly," he said.

* Quesada said Warren Ellis' new team book will feature a combination of old and new characters.

* Brevoort described Last Hero Standing as "almost like a Secret War for the MC2 Universe."
