WIZARD WORLD L.A.: TOP COW PANEL

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Witchblade's 10th anniversary and Pat Lee's designs for a new Cyberforce series were among the highlights at Top Cow's panel at Wizard World L.A. on Sunday.

Here's a rundown:

* Witchblade will celebrate its 10th anniversary in November with an extra-sized issue.

Series artist Mike Choi will provide the art for the beginning and end of the issue. Others contributing include George Perez, Francis Manapul, Keu Cha, Terry Dodson, Brandon Peterson, Chris Bachalo and Bart Sears.

"We're doing the book so that we can bring in as many guys as possible and still have the story make sense," said writer Ron Marz.

Marz and Choi both noted that the guest artist's pages will be geared toward each individual artist's style.

"The pages that George is doing I wouldn't have given to any other artist on the planet," Marz said. "It has that everybody-and-the-kitchen-sink kind of stuff, and George eats it up."

And the story promises to be special, too.

"We're actually going to tell you what the hell the Witchblade is and where it came from," Marz said.

Matt Hawkins noted there will always be a new Witchblade statue from Palisade Toys, as well as new trading cards.

* Marz is teaming with Pat Lee on a new Cyberforce series, and Top Cow displayed Lee's designs for Cyblade and Ripclow.

"The tech, the gear, that's what it's going to look like all the time," Marz said. "And Pat has to draw it all the time."

Marz said hopes are for Cyberforce to be ongoing.

"I want you to come back because you care about the characters and you're interested in what happens, not just because there's a bunch of pretty pictures," he said. "We're doing stories, not just portfolios with words on it."

* Freshmen, by actor Seth Green and Leonard Kirk, will launch in July.

* Necromancer, by Joshua Ortega and Manapul, will launch in August.

* Hawkins said the upcoming V.I.C.E. will be intense. "There's a pretty high body count," he said.

* Mark Waid and Marc Silvestri reassured that they will be on Hunter-Killer for some time as it is Top Cow's biggest launch of the year.

"I'm having a great time and you'll be seeing this book on a regular basis," Silvestri said. "I'll do this book as long Mark wants to do it."

* The Witchblade anime should be ready by June next year, and Hawkins said DVD plans for the TNT series have been shelved for the time being.

* Hawkins said the Wanted movie being developed at Universal has a contractual stipulation that the movie be PG-13.
