SPIKE ONE-SHOT

IDW Publishing has released additional details about Spike: Old Times, a 48-page one-shot in August featuring the character from the Angel television series.

Here's how IDW describes the book, which is written by Peter David and drawn by Fernando Goni:

"On a dark night in the 1880s, an elegant woman, named Cecily humiliates William, a young poet who flees into the night... not realizing it would turn out to be the first night of the rest of his unlife. Now, over a century later, the elegant Cecily is a vengeance demon known as Halfrek is aiming to destroy yet another young poet. But this time, William the Vampire‹the renowned Spike‹is at hand to even the odds."

"I always figured the business of having Spike and Halfrek 'recognize' each other in the episode 'Older and Far Away' was nothing but an in-joke shout-out to actress Kali Rocha's having played both Halfrek and, in the previous season's episode Fool for Love, Spike's lost love, Cecily," David said.

"But in the Whedon-verse, there's no such thing as an in-joke that can't be milked for all it's worth. And I figured there was plenty worth milking here. Quite simply, it was an episode that I wanted to see, and since it can't ever be done by Mutant Enemy, writing the story myself is the next best thing."

SAINT GERMAINE COLLECTED

Saint Germaine, the series originally published by Caliber Comics, will be released in a 168-page trade paperback, Saint Germaine: Shadows Fall, by Desperado Publishing and Image Comics in September.

It will collect the first four issues of the series in addition to the one-shot, Restoration.

Created and written by Gary Reed, Saint Germaine features art on the first four issues by Vincent Locke.  On the Restoration one-shot, Locke was joined by artists who illustrated specific scenes, including Galen Showman, Mike Perkins, Guy Davis, Nate Pride, Philip Xavier and Laurence Campbell.

"The Shadows Fall storyline is a complete story," said Reed, "as the first four issues introduced the characters and established the premise.  However, I didnąt think the ending had come full circle and we already moved onto the next storyline, so the Restoration one-shot went back to finalize the opening storyline. Now, the full story can be in one cohesive package."

Here's how Image describes the book:

"Saint Germaine centers on the man who claimed to be immortal and his life-long love interest, Lilith.  The two have lived through time and are able to snatch the memories of those near death.  Through those memories, Germaine and Lilith have lived an eternity yet died a thousand deaths."

Reed explained that the opening of the series deals with Germaine contemplating a true death.

"He has been without Lilith for quite some time and life has lost its meaning to him," Reed said.  "However, when Lilith re-emerges, things are different as she blames him for her plight of immortality and she wants revenge."

In addition to the Shadows Fall collection, Saint Germaine had an additional 6 issues published, many of which were one shot stories dealing with Casanova, The Man in the Iron Mask, and the Sioux Ghost Dance.  Reed said that if the Shadows Fall trade is received well, plans are to collect the rest of the Saint Germaine stories.

A trailer for The Darkness video game -- being produced by Majesco Entertainment and Starbreeze for next generation console releases of Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's Playstation 3 -- is now available at www.topcow.com.

The trailer was officially released at last week's E3 Expo with a 30-foot wall image of The Darkness and multiple plasma screens running the trailer for all to see. Top Cow will also be screening the trailer and other game footage at Wizard World Philadelphia, Comic-Con International in San Diego Comicon and Wizard World Chicago.

"When I saw the trailer composed of actual game footage for The Darkness I was stunned and amazed at how great it looked," said Top Cow founder and Darkness co-creator Marc Silvestri. "At first I thought it was just a cool looking cinematic, but when they told me it was actual gameplay I was blown away. It's very cool to see something I designed and co-created being this well represented as a video game."
