SONIC X AN ONGOING

Archie Comics has announced that Sonic X, the latest addition to the Sonic stable of books, will now be an ongoing series, set to be published 10 times a year.

"The reaction from fans when it came to Sonic X was impossible to ignore," editor Mike Pellerito said. "We'd be foolish not to keep this book on the stands."

Sonic X is written by Joe Edkin, with art by Tim Smith and Andrew Pepoy and covers by Spaz.

Here's how Archie describes the first two issues, due in August:

"All new stories based on the storylines from the hit Saturday morning cartoon Sonic X and featuring all the most popular characters; Sonic Along With Knuckles, Tails, Amy, Cream and Cheese, Rouge, Chris, Topaz and even an appearance by the mysterious Shadow as well as many more. Things go to the X-treme when Sonic and friends are transplanted and trapped on Earth. With the diabolical DR Eggman planning to conquer the planet with his maniacal mechanical robot menaces! Our heroes set off to protect the Earth from Eggman and find a way back to their home world.

"Sonic X starts off with a boom! When an evil plot by Eggman, with sidekicks Decoe and Bocoe putt hundreds in danger attempting to empty the bank vault of all its cash, Dr. Eggman hopes to gain more bucks for bigger, badder bots! Trapped in the bank are Sonicšs friend Chris and his family! Only Sonic can save the day with help from Knuckles, Amy, Cheese and Tails! Things go from bad to worse when a strange energy is threatening the entire seaboard, is it a Chaos Emerald? Or is it something much more dangerous? Worst of all the mystery is at the bottom of the ocean, and Sonic canšt swim!"

KITTY PRYDE MINI-SERIES

Fresh off the new Age of Apocalypse series, Akira Yoshia is writing X-Men: Kitty Pryde -- Shadow & Flame, a five-issue mini-series drawn by Paul Smith.

"Who wouldn't want a pet dragon?" Yoshida said. "Itšs truly an honor to be working with a master storyteller like Paul Smith on this story, especially as he's one of the artists most closely associated with Kitty and Lockheed. Seeing him breathe life into my scripts is a high I will never come down from!"

In the mini-series, a deadly mystery draws Kitty Pryde and Lockheed from the Astonishing X-Men to the shores of Japan, but ninjas and dragons will be the least of their worries.

The first issue arrives in stores on June 29. Click on the thumbnails above for larger images.
