FANTASTIC FOUR MOVIE UPDATE

Stan Lee, who created the Fantastic Four with Jack Kirby, said "it's thrilliing" to see the characters come to life in the film that is reaching theaters on Friday.

"Fox has wanted to make this movie for a long time. I'm glad they waited for the right story and the right technology. They certainly got the perfect cast and it's all going to be up there on the big silver screen ... the humor, the drama, the adventure, the action, the fun ... all the things that make them so fantastic."

Like many of the Marvel films, Lee appears in Fantastic Four. This is his most extensive bit, though, as he plays mailman Willie Lumpkin.

Lee previously appeared in bit parts in Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, X-Men, Daredevil and Hulk.

BATMAN BEGINS UPDATE

Batman Begins pulled in an estimated $18.7 million over the four-day weekend to place second at the box office.

After two weeks on top of the charts, Batman Begins was knocked off by War of the Worlds, which generated $77.6 million over the four days and $113.3 million for the week.

Batman Begins now has pulled in $154.4 million. It could passed the $162.8 million mark of 1992's Batman Returns this week.

The weekend numbers continued Hollywood's slump at the box office, with revenues down for the 19th consecutive week.

War of the World's six-day total was far short of Spider-Man 2's six-day total of $180.3 million last year.

LAST HERO STANDING SELLS OUT

Marvel Comics is reporting that Last Hero Standing #1, the first issue of a five-issue mini-series, has sold out.

"Hoo-HA! Pat Olliffe and I had a blast while working on Last Hero Standing," said writer Tom DeFalco. "We both love the type of comics that are filled with action and angst in the mighty Marvel manner and it's very gratifying to know that we're not alone."

Set in the MCS Universe, Last Hero Standing finds friends turning against friends as some of the world's greatest heroes become unwitting pawns of the Norse God, Loki, and is a throwback to the storytelling of years past.

"Titles like Last Hero and Spider-Girl are part of a proud and glorious storytelling tradition and wešre just thrilled to share our love," DeFalco said.

Director of Sales David Gabriel said, "The Spider-Girl digest collections have outperformed our wildest expectations, with the first volume going into its second printing, and the series selling extremely well in the direct market, bookstore market, mass market and at book fairs. So expect to see further MC2 collections both later this year and into 2006 -- and keep your eyes peeled for a special one-shot comic in October highlighting Spider-Girl and the entire Spider-Man family!"
